New to BP with a 10 gauge and hopes of a turkey

Keep up the good work.. Turkeys are not ‘migratory’ birds, so few states have restrictions.. I hunt with my 4-bore, 5drams/2oz #5 plated shot. Check your state regs. If your limited on supplies - remove the barrels and nipples, run water thru them (I use my garden hose outside), then use a 10b...

    Adjustable Shotgun Shot Measure

Good job. The original looks to be a BGI, made with something like bass/balsa wood - to reduce the cost. Your wood choice looks good.

    Back into antiques…

The appearance looks to be in very nice condition. The lack of pitting at the snail/nipple indicates low use and/or well taken care of. (Your nipple threads might be a little long, based on the gap in the photo?). If the bore is constant with a tight patch - I’d make sure the flame path is...

    Back into antiques…

Very nice looking piece… unless there’s something obvious- should be some fun in shooting! Deringers always make me think of Turner Kirkland (Dixie Gun Works) as they were his favorite to collect.

    NRA "Voting"

NY is the only State that can do such as the NRA was chartered in NY in 1871. Anti-gun attempt, most likely - but, the NRA BOD let Wayne L. do such, for years.

    NRA "Voting"

As a Life member, I’m undecided. I find it sad that NY has to do the job of the BOD.

    ID request (E. Schilling)

Looks like a cut-off single barrel, made into a pistol. Pinfire production established post 1850 Jones Underlever- post 1860 Not much quality or value. Enjoy, nonetheless

Convert ANY flintlock to percussion for $60 …

If it was invented 200yrs ago, it probably would have saved the demise of a lot of Flintlocks..

    Shot Dippers

You did well… congrats.. Here’s some different handles designs of originals (mostly British).

    Caps Made In Idaho

Keep in mind, the NMLRA can’t influence its own State to host a separate Primitive hunt.. They also couldn’t garner enough signatures for their State to offer a custom/specialty license plate. Might be best to complain to CCI directly.

    English Fowler

Looks like a nice light Sporting piece… Mid-1800’s for sure. Much lighter and never made for ball as such with a Fowler.

    Cutting large chunks of lead

3-4 tpi bandsaw blade (for wood) cuts thru 2” thick soft lead with ease .. smaller tpi seem to clog up.

    Superimposed load rifle

Another: John Rigby 1825 Percussion cap had won out and been accepted by all the makers in the UK by then.

    Caps from Swiss?

RWS most likely. Swiss Powder donated powder & caps to the HawkenClassic. Great company that really seems to support/donate to many shooting events.

English .28 Gauge Single Shotgun need Help

Nice piece for some small game shooting. London proofs marks on top of barrel of a sporting arm, seems odd as most are hidden underside. It’s not for ball - no rifle rights and the straight stock, octagon -round bbl would be for shot. Feltwad provided a safe load to start. Enjoy

    rate(s) of twist chosen

Custom Relic Wood Boxes - What do you Use to Store your BP supplies?

My friend Peter W. got me motivated to make my own shooting box(s). Enjoyed the process of learning something new.

    rate(s) of twist chosen

Most likely, trial & error as to what the maker preferred… IMO- it was the British and their agreement with engineering genius Sir Joseph Whitworth in the 1850’s - 4 years of trials/experiments/testing (400yd inclosed range) to establish the 52bore (0.451”) 1:20 twist that set the tone for twist...

    Northwest Alabama Meet n Greet

Good idea.. Best of luck. Unfortunately, it conflicts with the Tri-State Gunclub’s Match. (Friendship).
