“Life is too short to hunt with an ugly rifle”
Fortunate to have an understanding wife that allows me to enjoy the hobby. Some of my best friends and memories have come from owning/hunting with old originals.
I still hunt with different originals each year - unfortunately, most don’t meet this...
Anyone who copies another maker and DOES NOT mark/his own name (somewhere clearly on the rifle. Ex: underside of barrel) is a person lacking integrity -imo.
Very nice rifle and cased set…
I was just recently sharing photos of Whitworth displays, including a pair of sporting rifles.. on FB.
Good timing..
Glad to see another.
Thanks
I shoot to 1000yds, I held many LR BP matches over the decades.
I cast my own and swage my own -paper patch.
I don’t recall the nipple threads - I believe it’s 1/4-28.
Check with Buffalo Arms - they used to sell pp bullets in multiple diameters. 0.442” - pp up to 0.450”-0.451” should do...
Sorry, I can’t ID the manufacturer. There were a few foreign companies that made such over the years. Euroarms comes to mind.
Looks like a nice piece..
I shoot a 530gr PP bullet over 85gr Swiss 2f in my original.
Best of luck..
I hunt with an original John Manton early percussion 17b (0.648” - 400gr RB). 60gr OE shoots well as I keep everything 50yd or under. Still exits thru double lung shots.
Birmingham supplied barrels & components to the guntrade across UK by the tons - to anyone.
Looks more Birmingham std quality, not a British Best. (no PT vent, number of screws in lock plate, etc.)
Enjoy it and have fun.
Lock looks like an initial, then GOULCHER.
They were generations/families of lock builders supplying the trade with different spellings over the decades.
