What historical rifle would you most like to shoot?

I would like to shoot AND own an 8 bore flintlock. I can easily arrange this, if your ever up in my neck of the woods (WA) and would like to try it out.

What Muzzleloading Stuff Did You Do Today?

Just spent some time cooking up food for my hungry girl with the casting furnace.

    How old are ya?

37, been shooting since I was big enough to shoulder a small rifle (maybe 6-7) but didn't get into black powder until my mid 20's (around the time I joined this forum).

    TAYLOR'S & COMPANY

I hope I have enough posts to have some credibility. I recently had some trouble with Taylors & Company. I had purchased a new 1858 "Ace" revolver from another company and it showed up with a very serious alignment problem. These are imported by Taylors & Company and the warranty work is...

    It’s getting pretty bad!

Yea, but I'm in a "blue state", the sky is going to fall here first! You will get it when all the jerks move from here to your state.

Any flintlock fans in the Arlington, WA area?

As the title says, any flintlock fans in the Arlington, WA area? I don't shoot competitively but I'm down for shooting as a group for fun.

So how are you supposed to fill this powder canister?

You are not meant to take that top off to fill the flask... the threads inside will likely strip easily. They make purpose built funnels with the same thread pitch for these flasks. I have Pedersoli's large brass flask and use their brass funnel with the same thread pitch for filling it. You...

    minimum ball rotation

All other things being ideal, barrel length has nothing to do with accuracy. There are videos of people with "unmentionable" firearms that have 1.75" barrels repeatedly making incredibly long range shots (300+ yards). You need enough barrel to put a spin on the projectile, which can be a very...

    It’s getting pretty bad!

Only thing I can't find is caps and that's just because I wont buy them online nor drive more then 30 miles for them. I primarily shoot flintlocks anyway...

    Veteran Arms Lancer Pistol

If you want bigger, Veteran Arms does have some 68 caliber flintlock pistols in stock. Dixie Gun Works also has more An IX and An XIII pistols in stock. If you get a flintlock, you wont have to worry about the cap shortages. :thumb:

    Veteran Arms Lancer Pistol

Everyone has a crazy story about Indian made guns. India is a big country and there is more than one gun maker there. I've dealt with Veteran Arms in the past and they are pretty careful on who they get guns from. If there is a problem, they take very good care of you. I purchased a French 1768...

    Veteran Arms Lancer Pistol

If it's actually a .62" then I would use a .58" or smaller ball. Anything bigger will cause problems once some fouling starts to build. Measure your bore with some calipers before you pick a ball size. Lee makes a double cavity .575" mold that would be a good inexpensive choice. Another option...

What Muzzleloading Stuff Did You Do Today?

Just rolled up a batch of junk mail cartridges for the horse pistol.

    Veteran Arms Lancer Pistol

Bare or patched? I use paper cartridges, which have advantages and disadvantages. Advantage of a cartridge is speed and ease of loading. Cartridges are especially good if you shoot with people who are used to modern guns and get bored easily. Another plus side to the cartridge is that new...

    Shooting Marbles?? Is that smart?

A steel ball will likely get less penetration than a lead ball. Problem is the steel is much less dense than lead and will lose velocity quickly (ask any duck hunter). Some fancy math involved but there is a reason lead is used over steel and it's not just because lead is softer. Now a tungsten...

He is a scammer, they make posts like that (probably copied from another forum) to raise their post count. The idea is the higher post count will help people trust them more in the classifieds.

    Veteran Arms Lancer Pistol

Veteran Arms guns are mostly made in India. The company has a decent reputation and good customer service. I did a quick search but my google-fu isn't good enough to find the original load. Do you plan on using military style cartridges or patched balls? The way I decided on my An IX load was...

    FFFFg powder priming

Never used FFFFg for priming but I do use it for the main charge in my little screw pistol. @64Springer is right, you should get about 5600 shots assuming you use 5gr per shot.
