"Use of shot is not permitted"

That's a weird rule. Are .32 caliber round balls permitted? If so, just use a bunch of those.

"Sort of" period looking scope options

To elaborate on the original question, here's my train of thought... it's not so much a question of whether or not to install a scope, I have a Lyman trade rifle with a modern scope already on it. The scope works fine, but in my opinion it looks weird and out of place on the rifle. So it's a...

    Overpriced sellers

Last gun show I went to, there was a guy there with two 1lb cans of Goex for the low, low price of $90 each.

    Overpriced sellers

I miss when you could buy and sell guns on Facebook. I used to get screaming deals on muzzleloaders right after rifle season started every year. It was always the same story. They bought it, didn't sight it in, missed the deer, and it was somehow the gun's fault.

What do you shoot in your TC New Englander

I didn't even know they made a New Englander shotgun. My New Englander is a .50. Will the shotgun barrel fit into a rifle stock? It would be neat to have an interchangeable set.

I recall a thread about Paypal use.......update on that.

They tried that crap with me on my Grandmother's house (I own it on paper). They came out for an "inspection" and sent me a letter saying the eaves need to be painted or they'll cancel my policy. I had to call and explain to my agent that I'm not slapping a coat of paint over high dollar cedar...

    Cabela's Hawken by Investarms

I don't think they were all chrome lined, but I'm not sure. If it has a chromed bore it'll be obvious. It'll be shiny silver around the bore at the muzzle.

Is Change is a Good Thing? The New .54 Mold!

They fly true for me, the secret I found is not to overdrive them. If you put too much powder behind them they get squirrelly.

    Cabela's Hawken by Investarms

They're very nice rifles. Mine seems to have a chrome lined bore, I'm not sure if all of them do.

My Dad always told me: "Never loan your friends your truck, your chainsaw, or your girlfriend. They'll try to throw a rod in it as soon as you're out of sight."

Please someone school me on smoothbores

Someone that knows more than me could probably answer that one in more depth, but the way I understand it a lot of the older smoothbore muskets, which were larger calibers to begin with and very close to common shotgun sizes, were simply chopped down and sold as "fowlers". With the rate at which...

Please someone school me on smoothbores

Bore size and choke mostly. The main difference is that the smoothbore will be sized for a single projectile (.50 cal for example) instead of potentially choked for a shot load. Nothing would stop you from shooting shot out of a smoothbore or theoretically vice versa, but a smoothbore with shot...

That's probably the best comparison I've ever heard. Marginally acceptable for some applications, total garbage for others, never as good as the original, but generally accepted as a "better" replacement because it meets some made up set of rules.

Oh it's equipment too. A few years back my wife wanted me to go look at her dad's mower because it wouldn't start. He had it around back of his shed when I got there. Him: "Damn thing won't start. I just bought it last summer. It's almost brand new." Me: "When did it run last?" Him: "Last fall...

    We can't talk about matchlocks?

My wife's family is the worst for this. They'll have something nice, ignore basic maintenance and care, and want me to fix it when it just inexplicably doesn't work anymore (with the "I'm just as shocked as you are!" look on their face). My brother in law wanted to get into muzzleloading...

I recall a thread about Paypal use.......update on that.

I hate PayPal as much as anyone over their anti-2A policies, but on the subject of fines I think we're going off half cocked here. If you Google the terms of service and read the unabridged version, that section is specific to fraud and counterfeit goods/patent infringement, not firearms parts...

Where to find 1/4-28 musket nipples in bulk?

Thanks, I'll give them a try. Their catalog is from 2016, hopefully they're still in the business.

I've always heard "If you carry a bat in your trunk, also carry a ball and a glove. Your lawyer will thank you."

    French black powder

That's an older can of Vectan powder. The "Powder Noire de Chasse" translates to "Blackpowder for Hunting". As far as I've been able to tell, the French grade on a different scale then I'm used to. "Chasse" is the powder grade, and is apparently a mix of 5Fg-1.5Fg. At what proportions I have no...
