    Cylinder rotating counter-clockwise

Sorry, Mike, it wasn't in the original post because the cylinder reverse rotation happened on half-cock so I never got to full until later in my discovery. I will take it a part like I did cleaning it and reset all the parts.

    Cylinder rotating counter-clockwise

Thanks for all the replies. I just assumed that when hammer is at full cock, the cylinder does not move (lock in). But in this case, the cylinder spins as freely as it does on half-cock. I don't think it's supposed to do that. Advice??

    Cylinder rotating counter-clockwise

Lower it from half cock. Full cock release does not cause the cylinder to rotate counter clockwise.

    Cylinder rotating counter-clockwise

After cleaning my pietta 1858 remington texas .44 revolver, the internals (hammer, springs, trigger..), I notice that the cylinder will rotate clockwise when pulling the hammer to half-cock. But when I lower the hammer, the cylinder rotates back counter clockwise,, almost back to original...

    How wet is wet?

Thanks for your replies. Gave me an 'hmmmmm....' moment: Do you think the snake "cottonmouth" got its name because some hunter a long time ago thought the snake's mouth looked like a hunter with some cotton patches in the his mouth, getting ready to shoot?

    How wet is wet?

Everyone is talking about the type of patch and how to get it wet. I would like to know how wet do you get the patch? Is it lightly damp or damp enough to get your fingers slippery, or wet to the point of dripping in the pouch? It may have been answered or some common sense approach but I...

What's going on with Dixie Gunworks

I am happy with Dixie and their ability to handle stocking and shipping in these times. I ordered the 1807 harpers flintlock pistol on May 14 and received it May 28. I ordered flints on May 21 and received them June 3rd (tomorrow by UPS). They are doing a good job. Maybe we've been spoiled...

    Dixie Gunworks- Problems

I ordered 1807 harpers flintlock on May 14th and got it May 28. I ordered flints on May 21 and got them June 3. Considering all the problems with the supply chain and employees either sick, afraid of catching covid, or making more sitting at home, I am happy with Dixie and will continue to...

2nd time out using the Lyman's Great Plains Rifle....

I don't know if I missed your video on the aiming of the GPR but would be interested if you did anything to the front sight or the buckhorn sight. I got the smaller version of the buckhorn sight along with the installed bigger version, with the GPR. I am using the bigger version and align the...

I want to move on and experience flintlocks. Any suggestions as to a starter flintlock?

Thanks for your input, I would like to build but I have a tremor in my hands, 71, eyesight is OK, patience is a bit less than OK. Is there a kit for me that doesn't involve buying more tools or demands precision work? Thanks.

I want to move on and experience flintlocks. Any suggestions as to a starter flintlock?

Third time out with the GPR flintlock and it was great. Shot 4 times hitting the target at 25 yards, dry-patched twice, shot 3 more times. Hitting target and making a spark and SMOKE is great. Now I think it's only appropriate to give my GPR a buddy to hang around with, preferably a pistol of...

I took my GPR out to the range for the first time after testing flint sparking and it was so comfortable in a t-shirt. florida is nice most of the time. Do you have a video on what you did when you unpacked and the steps to prep for shooting (flint, frizzen, etc.)? Thanks for the videos, you...

Question about knapping flint edge in the jaws of the cock

I just got my lyman GPR with the sawcut square tile-like flint beveled at both ends. When I search for youtube for sharpening methods, I can't find any that sharpen these type of flints. How do you sharpen them? or should I put them in my pouch and use them for 'shims'? Thanks.

I want to move on and experience flintlocks. Any suggestions as to a starter flintlock?

I took my GPR to the range for the first time. Did everything right. Except did not remember to hold when flash occurred. I missed my first shots: one high and one low when I 'flinched' twice. Third and fourth time no spark; fifth time spark/flash but no shot. Sixth time, after cleaning...
