Its cool that you are going with a .40 cal. I love the caliber in a muzzleloader. I've never had or wanted a smooth bore ML & never been into shooting round ball in anything, & don't even use real black powder in mine. I like a fast twist, T7 powder, modern jacketed or cast bullets. Sorry I...
LEE & BACO molds are good molds.
Heres a link to Montana cast bullets .40 pistol bullet page. The top right 200gr & the bottom left 185gr bullets should serve you very well with 30-35gr FFF powder.

If you need help finding or deciding on a suitable .40 conical for that, either PM me or ask in your thread, I'm sure that there are other .40 conical shooters in here besides me. Light-short conicals will serve you better in that slow round ball twist.

I make no bones about it, I’ll take T7 over real black 100% of the time. I use T7fff in the .40 sidelock & the ROA pistol & as a cheap plinking charge with cast conicals in the .45 inline to cut way back on the amount of BH 209 & T7ff in my .50 1:24 sidelock.
I got a lb or so of Goex FF & FFF...
If you're a muzzleloader shooter, it's gonna happen to you, sooner or later. We are all human. Just yesterday I was shooting at my backyard range with a friend new2bp & & was fixing to load my inline & I had just stated to my friend that it was bad practice to talk to or be in a convo with...
Great idea for a post, thanks. My father only hunted from 2x4 & plywood treestands, my grandfather only ground hunted/stalked. From 8yrs old in 1970, I've done plenty of both, but my primary/preferred way of hunting is with a self climber treestand. I never gave it a thought as to where that...
