    First flintlock deer.

Congratulations on a nice buck with a great looking rifle.

    Goex, back in business

Wait...... you mean everyone doesn't have at least 50 lbs of powder? I got stuck empty-handed once and vowed I wasn't going to let it happen again. So I looked at what I consumed annually in ammo and rounded up a tad.

    Pedersoli Jäger or Kibler SMR

My vote goes to the kibler. Nothing against the pedersoli, they seem to be fine firearms. I think kibler lock and barrel are just superior products, and aren't those really the 2 most important parts?

    Rearranged hay rake tine.

Very nice work! I have a box of broken rake teeth in the barn but due to my lack of talent and ambition that's where they'll stay.

For those that use loading blocks?

What everyone else said +1. Once you get the board sealed or saturated with lube you shouldn't have much problem. I use deer tallow or bear oil + bees wax or winter lube with mink oil and don't have a problem with patches drying out.

    First Shots!

If you think that was fun, just wait until you try it with black powder! I'd say pretty good shooting for the first couple shots with a flintlock.

So how many different wild meats have you killed, cooked and eaten?

I regularly kill and eat in season duck (mostly wood duck, mallard, black duck and pin tail) canada goose, snow goose ruffed grouse, woodcock, squirrel, snowshoe hare, cottontail, beaver, muskrat, whitetail deer and turkey. All fantastic On occasion diver ducks, frog, porcupine, woodchuck...

Pedersoli Double Rifle Factory Flaw and Warranty issue

I'd have the .50 opened up to smoothbore. Still roundball capable but also buckshot, shot or buck and ball. Or you could always remove the 50 barrel and just have it bored to 54. Either way you pay a little, butau be easier than dealing with second hand warranty issues. Good luck

    Kibler Woodsrunner Assembly Progress

Looks like an awesome kit. I'm assuming that by the time I see yours and a few others completed my wallet will be a little lighter.

Getting back in the black powder game

Keep an eye on the classifieds here if you can wait. Something interesting will usually turn up. I haven't heard anything bad on the guns you've mentioned, but the prices are getting really close to a semi custom build. In my view that would be worth saving up for. A little bit more money for a...

What makes a good squirrel rifle ?

There's a lot of good advice on this thread already. I'll just add that I really enjoy my .36 flintlock with 44 inch barrel. With 25ish grains of FFFg and a 000 buck shot it's awesome on squirrels and rabbits.

    Nice rifle!

    Weather Proofing

When I used to hunt with a caplock I never worried about it too much. Keep the lock tucked under your arm if you're knocking rain/snow off branches. The most I ever did was put a cows knee over the lock if it was really raining hard or heavy wet snow. Never had a problem. Well except when I...

    RB Sprue and accuracy

I use inexpensive lee molds. They're easy to use and you can cast a pile of round ball in a couple of hours. I started with a cast iron frying pan on a camp stove. Use a lee pot now. Once your molds are warm it's almost foolproof. Lots of good YouTube videos for help if you need it.

    The Future of Traditional Muzzleloaders?

My first was a CVA Kentucky rifle, second hand partially assembled kit. Not necessarily "top of the line", but it got me hooked. I think that affordable traditional style guns are important to help people get their toes in the muzzleloading water. If not for that first cheap CVA or tradition or...

I need help narrowing down my flintlock rifle choices

I think you're on the right track with a used Kibler, if you can find one. My advice would be to figure out what it is you really want first. If it's the Kibler then look for a used one, get a kit ordered or order one in the white. However you do it, get what you want the first time or you'll be...

    Northwoods Muzzleloader Camp

Deer camp in the big woods, hard to beat that. Sounds like a great time. When I was young I got to go to UP deer camp a few times. Then the old wise ones all crossed the river and camp got sold. I spent about 4 weeks total at that camp but those memories are priceless.

One Long Gun And One Handgun

Ok I'll play. I'll take my fusil de chasse in 20 gauge and heavy dragoon pistol, also in 20 gauge. One kind of ammo should simplify things. I'd then have the ability to hunt anything in my neighborhood. Loading for defense I could use buck and ball or just buckshot.

    First flintlock deer

Congratulations! The meat always tastes better when you do it with a flintlock.
