First Batch of Deer Fat into Tallow

I use it for patch lube. I mix in just enough bees wax to get the consistency I want. Roughly 1/3 bees wax. Straight for winter shooting.

Aging a Polished bright lock plate

I've used mustard. It will dull it down and discolor it leaving you with a splotchy aged look.

Neighbors tree has a wasp nest in it

If it's in a tree it should be hornets. We call them bald faced hornets around here. Those are the ones I put in trash bag. They have a pretty vicious sting, like getting rammed by a hot pole barn spike. So be careful with them. I usually get 4-5 nests every summer and only get stung a couple...

Neighbors tree has a wasp nest in it

Tie it up in a trash bag and leave it there until you're ready to disassemble it. Then do that on a cold day. I've grabbed them in summer using the trash bag early in the morning. I throw them in the freezer for a few days and they're pretty much all dead. Nice score!

Need some assitance with my first flintlock choice

I would say, go with your gut. If you know you want a longrifle, don't buy something else. Buy once, cry once! For deer I would choose .45 and above. Kibler makes some dandy kits!

    expansion of a 45 PRB

I've shot several deer with .440 roundball in my old CVA. All recovered, none went far. The farthest shot was +/- 80 yards the closest about 15 feet. The closest deer was shot through both lungs, ball went clean through. It ran the farthest, 150ish yards, but left a nice blood trail. No problem...

What’s Your Favorite Long Gun that You own.

I guess if I had to pick a favorite it would be my TVM fusil 20 gauge. I like my others for specific purpose like deer hunting or squirrel hunting etc. The fusil will do it all. She's taken squirrel, rabbit, grouse, woodcock, coyote, ducks, geese and deer. You can't beat that for an all around gun

Is There Such a Thing as Too Much Figure in the Wood?

Sometimes a highly figured stock needs to be finished a little darker to mute it a little. Remember it's the finish that brings out the figure of the wood and to what degree. Just my opinion though.
