Muzzleloading shops and ranges in Huntsville, AL?

Count me in as long as I have the time off from work

Muzzleloading shops and ranges in Huntsville, AL?

I've been going to Swan Creek regularly since moving here, it's a nice place with friendly RSO's. It's just a shame it's closed during duck season right now

WITHDRAWN lead lead and more lead $1.00lb cnd

If you change your mind on shipping I'd buy as much as you can fit in a flat rate box

    1861 Navy paper cartridges

As long as you have properly fitting caps and bullets that are big enough to get swaged into the cylinder, you don't have to worry about chain fires. The lube is good for keeping the fouling soft

    Well I will tell ya...

Every time I go to the range I always get people who are curious about what I'm shooting and usually they're very excited to take me up on my offer to shoot whatever I brought. I've never had a bad experience with someone complaining about me shooting black powder. It's hard for me to imagine to...

    Kibler Brown Bess?

I'd personally rather see them put out a matchlock kit. I know the market isn't very big for them, but I would buy one in a heartbeat

    Patch lube.

For target lube I'm a huge fan of water and dish soap. It works really well and the only ingredients are things you already have and are really cheap. For me, I can shoot all day without cleaning and not have any drop in accuracy

    Pedersoli Brown Finish

I've found this finish to not be durable and to scratch really easily unfortunately. My Pedersoli 12 gauge double barrel has scratches on an otherwise beautiful gun because of this cheap finish they put on. It's unfortunate, but I probably won't but another Pedersoli again. They're too expensive...

    Convenient grease

The NSSA annoyingly requires we smear grease over the chambers of our revolvers to prevent chain fires. I'm firmly in the camp that a proper sized ball and properly fitting caps will prevent chain fires and grease is just an unnecessary mess. I usually just put a light coating of bore butter...

    Kibler Fowler Arrived!

I can't wait to get mine. I put my order in on May 17th and haven't gotten shipping confirmation yet.

    Dawn and water patch lube

This is what I use nowadays when shooting from a bench. In my experience, wiping between shots in completely unnecessary when using the dish soap and water patch lube. Accuracy out of my SMR is just as good as mink oil which was my previous go to patch lube. Added bonus is I use the same...

Kibler fowler, a couple of photos,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,

That sure is pretty. Do you mind sharing what you did to get that color? I have one coming (ordered May 17th, hopefully it'll ship soon) and am planning to go for a similar look

New to smoothbore and what I like for a RB loading charge

Shooting bare ball in the NSSA I've never had any problems with leading. A bare 678 RB with 60 grains of 3fg gives me pretty good accuracy in my 69 cal.

    Testing the New Goex Powder

I tested the new vs old in my CVA Zouave and found that the new Goex required about 12% more powder when loaded by volume. When loaded by weight, it was exactly the same as old Goex. I'm curious to see your results

    NWTG in the Colonies?

I'm curious about this too. I ordered one of the Kibler fowlers and was wondering if that style of gun would have been carried by the colonials during the war

unidentified weapons of gg father in Louisiana regt

I believe the musket in that picture is a Springfield 1816 with a Belgian cone-in-barrel style percussion conversion. Here's a picture of mine for comparison

whats your favorite part of muzzleloading, what keeps you hooked?

Taking time to slow down and focus on something in this fast paced world is something I've always appreciated with muzzleloading

    WORST DAY AT THE RANGE!

I imagine people like this probably don't even know about these old cartridges and probably don't know anything about old guns either. I find it's best to try to educate them when I come across them at the range, but if they continue to be willfully ignorant and refuse to learn then there's...

    WORST DAY AT THE RANGE!

As we all know anything over 20 grains in a muzzleloader will just explode the barrel. That's why I play it safe and only load 15 grains in all of my guns. 36 caliber all the way up to 12 gauge, just to be safe 😂
