    Breechplug fouling solved

When you clean your rifle try storing it muzzle down so the oil doesn't accumulate in the breech over time. This has worked for me pretty well.

    CLOSED WTB Original Springfield Rifle-Musket

I'm looking for an original Springfield rifle musket in 58 caliber to use as a skirmish gun with the N-SSA. I have a Pedersoli 1861 right now, but it leaves a lot to be desired in my opinion and I prefer originals. Please let me know if you have one that you're looking to sell.

Silicon gun sock for storing muzzleloader ?

I'm sure others will say differently but I've never had a problem with rust while using these. I always clean and oil my guns well before putting them away and have never seen any rust from storage with these.

    Flint orientation

I had the same rifle for a while and always had pretty decent ignition (although not quite the same level as my Kibler). I used these flints from Track and had maybe 98% ignition with my rifle before I sold it. I always put the flint "upside down" with the flat side up in that lock...

Muzzleloading shops and ranges in Huntsville, AL?

I've gotten a lot of mixed opinions about Swan Creek, but it's so close to where I'll be living that it might be hard to beat unless it's really bad. Why do you say avoid it? Is it just full of unsafe idiots? Shooting in a friend's range sounds really nice compared to the public ranges I've been...

    1861 Navy paper cartridges

I've used his cartridge kit in the past for my .36 and it's worked well. I'm not a huge fan of those cappers though. They work better than handling loose caps, but I've always like my Ted Cash snail capper for these Colts. It has the added benefit of holding 100 caps in the frame which is really...

    Rapine Trash Can availability?

Before you go buying different bullets, have you checked your bore diameter to make sure the ones you have are the right size? Minies should be .001" to .002" undersized from the bore. Accuracy can be really bad if they aren't a good fit for your specific bore.

Muzzleloading shops and ranges in Huntsville, AL?

I've been to Brierfield once for a NSSA competition. It was a 9 hour drive from Dallas, but since we're moving to Huntsville I'm planning on going a lot more. I didn't know NMLRA had shoots out of Brierfield too, I'll check it out when we get there

    Pedersoli Shotguns?

I've been quite happy with mine, but I think they're overpriced. I've been kinda wishing I held out for a quality original instead. I've seen some that are in good condition for about the same price as my new Pedersoli, but I'm certainly no expert. I will add that for the price that Pedersoli is...

    Is this inevitable?

My Pedersoli double barrel that I bought new has the same marks on it from the stock ramrod. I wouldn't worry about it. It's just from the brass tip rubbing up against the delicate finish on the barrels

    Northwest Alabama Meet n Greet

I'm moving out to Huntsville soon, I might be able to make it out there if you don't mind taking in a stranger.

Is Graf's branded powder the same as Schuetzen?

Graf's branded powder says it's imported by Schuetzen, but is it exactly the same powder just with a different label? They're selling it for about a dollar cheaper than Schuetzen branded powder. As far as I can tell they're identical.

Muzzleloading shops and ranges in Huntsville, AL?

My wife and I are moving to Huntsville, AL soon and I was curious if there are any shops there that sell muzzleloading supplies? I've always had to order online and it would be kinda nice to buy stuff in person for a change. Also, does anyone have any black powder friendly ranges or clubs in...

    Another project

What are your thoughts on this kit so far? I was thinking of building one and giving it my best man as a gift.

    Simple question…..

No such thing as stupid questions in my opinion, we were all novices trying to learn at one point. There is definitely such thing as stupid answers though

    Pedersoli 1777 Charleville

I believe you're right. The cartridge in my post is actually for a Springfield 1842 and it's pretty close to what was actually used. For the 1777 Chareleville in question it would be even easier to make paper cartridges.

    Pedersoli 1777 Charleville

Go make some paper cartridges for it and see how much fun loading a smoothbore is with them. I make my own with a .662" RB and 80 grains of Schuetzen 2Fg. Sometimes I'll add three rounds of buckshot and make buck and ball. You'll be surprised about the kind of accuracy you can get from these...

    Simple question…..

The next step after a flintlock is to get a matchlock.

Historical military style rifled muskets poll

The main reason I have one is to use in NSSA competition, which I guess would fall under target shooting.
