Well, that particular preacher has gone on to his own reward... some years ago now. I'm hoping he has lots of dogs and cats to keep him company... and to remind him that animals DO go to heaven.

What Muzzleloading Stuff Did You Do Today?

Took my T/C Renegade .56 SB out for a little wandering this morning. Started a new thread: Wander Notes

    Wander Notes

Not sure this belongs here, but so be it. Decided to take a little walk today and sat down to make a few notes (and to rest) along the way. Thought I would start this thread out as a sort of place to post journal entries made in the field. Thought about posting photographs of the...

    Oldest photograph of a dog.

Some years ago, a pastor told me that animals do not have souls and do not go to heaven. This was after one of the family dogs got crippled on the road and had to be put down. There were few things I disagreed with that particular pastor about, but I had to bite my tongue rather than ask him...

Most brawls somehow involve a woman. Most women aren't worth the fight, but I've met a few dogs and cats who might be.

    Thompson Center Renegade.

Sometimes the fit of the stock is a little tight when you swap barrels. Occasionally other things crop up, but mostly it works out.

    .56 SB wad ?'s

Very informative post. This explains why I can't find a patch thin enough to use with a .550 round ball... and also why the .550 RB seem to fly pretty true without a wad. I've been using the .54 caliber felt wads from TOTW, but this morning tried them with a .015" patch wrapped around them...

What Muzzleloading Stuff Did You Do Today?

I have one gun with an aperture sight and plan for one more, but honestly, most of my guns wear the original sights. I have a few that I swap barrels with and swapping a barrel usually means adjusting the sights if they are not bolted, welded, dovetailed or or glued onto the barrel. Some folks...

Reader's glasses helped me, but an aperture sight rear and bead front really made a difference.

    1849 As A First "Colt"?

I'd go with an 1860 Army replica in either a Pietta or Uberti. The pocket pistols have their uses, but also more than their share of issues at times.

What Muzzleloading Stuff Did You Do Today?

Received my T/C Renegade .56 caliber smooth bore barrel from @Splitear today and took it out to "play". Was able to hit a soda can at 20 yards with unpatched .550 and .530 round balls. Only fired a single light shot charge, but it perforated the soda can nicely at the same range. Used .54...

    Oldest photograph of a dog.

David's photograph was originally a Daguerreotype... no pun intended. It is an excellent composition and the technological limits of the time make it even more impressive. Cameras of that era were large, heavy and not for the faint of heart to learn how to operate. The exposure for that...

    TC rifle comparisons

That's a pretty big topic for this venue. T/C made a lot of guns over the years. Here is an excerpt from Wikipedia.com. I am by no means certain it is complete (or correct), but it will give you a good start: Cherokee: Barrel: 24” octagonal, twist: 1:30 (32) & 1:48 (36 & 45), Trigger: double...

I might be new to this stuff

Once upon a time I thought I had a pretty good handle on the subject of muzzle-loading guns. Then I discovered this forum. I still don't know exactly how much I DON'T know, but I do know that there is quite a bit to learn that I have only scratched the surface of. Quite certain I will never...

It Wasn't the Lube - It Was the Powder

I've got some Old Eynsford left and some Swiss. Of late, both varieties are giving me awfully dirty bores. Nothing else has really changed except maybe the weather. Only other thing I can think of is that I've been shooting a new to me gun quite a bit that hasn't yet been seasoned properly...

    Smooth Bore Revolver

What point? You said "Makes me want to build an unmentionable smoothbore wheel gun." My response was to indicate that it can be done legally. What point did I miss? Forgive me if I am too stupid to understand, but God did not give everyone an incredible intellect.

    Smooth Bore Revolver

Can actually be done legally, but you gotta register it.

    Smooth Bore Revolver

Illegal if it is an unmentionable revolver. Percussion guns are OK under federal law. Your mileage may vary as far as challenging an unconstitutional local ordinance. I always thought something like that would be great for shooting at wasps with charges of table salt.

    Trade whiskey

No longer drink except to cure cancer sores in my mouth and after swishing it around, I spit it out. My oncologist does not really approve.

    Cleaning

My "range" is usually the yard shooting off the back porch. I don't mind cleaning, but I find it easier when I have all my stuff in a stuff box and a ready supply of hot water on hand. Somehow I could see myself dropping items into the grass and never finding them again.
