This is great! Where can someone find the source article?

all of the Munroe's are direct relations of my wife. their pappy was sent over as an indentured servant from Scotland.
seems like half of the roster were also related by marriage . Having been married to one of the Munroe gals for 54 years i can understand the attraction to those girls.

Received my T/C Renegade .56 caliber smooth bore barrel from @Splitear today and took it out to "play". Was able to hit a soda can at 20 yards with unpatched .550 and .530 round balls. Only fired a single light shot charge, but it perforated the soda can nicely at the same range.

Used .54 caliber lubed felt wads under and over the projectiles. All loads were with 70 grains volumetric of 3f Old Eynsford.

Now, I've only just begun to develop loads for this barrel, and I don't have much experience with smoothbore barrels, so I am far from making any pronouncements, but my first impression is more of a question: Why, exactly, do we need rifling? ;) I could see myself becoming very happy with this gun if I only had to choose... one gun (shudder).

Will be doing a bit more experimentation in the coming weeks. Will post results as they become available.

I’m glad you’re pleased with the barrel Dale!

Be interested to know how they work out. My eyes always need help.
I'll let you know.

My eyes have issues. Pretty severe astigmatism in both eyes. I'm ok with correction, but my progressive lenses don't allow me to see the sights. I'm going to shoot next with my 'computer glasses'. If I can make out the sights, as long as the target is large enough, I may be OK. If not, I can use the new sights with my progressive lenses...maybe.😛

Reader's glasses helped me, but an aperture sight rear and bead front really made a difference.

Well, he has been a busy boy. I received my T/C Hawken 45 cal barrel from @Splitear today also. I was going to send it out to be bored out to 54 cal and cut to carbine, but It is so nice I can't make myself do it. It found a home with my 50 cal Hawken (it has only 564 numbers difference on the serial number), so I can swap it out and have two guns in one!

Luckily I have a second 50 cal barrel coming from BigSkyRambler that I can send out.

I don't really want to put a peep on the SMR. The dovetail is too far down the barrel for it to work, and I don't want to mark up the tang, or drill another hole. Besides, my astigmatism makes round things look like a line...it's weird.

I'll work it out,

I have one gun with an aperture sight and plan for one more, but honestly, most of my guns wear the original sights. I have a few that I swap barrels with and swapping a barrel usually means adjusting the sights if they are not bolted, welded, dovetailed or or glued onto the barrel.

Some folks like those fluorescent ones. I can use 'em, but they never really did much for me. Holographic sights really help quite a bit, but I haven't quite reached the point where I am willing to put one of those on a muzzle-loader just yet. Maybe some day I'll get RoboCop eyes with an adjustable recticle. ;)

Painter my eye sight is 20/425 in my left eye and 20/475 in my right. They are only correctable to 20/30 left and 20/40 right. It is due to my sever astigmatism. I have learned to get the stock seat on my cheek in the exact place by feel and my sight picture is pretty good. It's kind of like shooting a bow when you feel the fletching on your cheek you know you are in the right spot to look thru the peep sight. It takes time to build the muscle memory and get used to your sights. I am not the greatest shot by any means but I can get a 6 inch group @ 100yards. I tell the guys I shoot with it's not bad for a blind man. I also put a little orange paint on the back side of the bead on my front sight. The color contrast helped.
