The OLDEST in my BP collection …

Yeah but, Percussion caps on something claiming to be 15th century?

    Keeping Minie in Barrel

Mobil One is a synthetic based lubricant. Has some proprietary additives but it's not a petroleum base oil (NO liquid dinosaurs)

    Keeping Minie in Barrel

I've used a thin over-shot paper wad. You can punch or cut out some from milk cartons, or buy 24 gauge wads; I dunno, you might even be able to seat a 20 ga wad over the minie.

How much powder for dove load?

Yeah, an ounce would be over 430 grains of powder. Lots of recoil, fire, smoke, (and UN-burned powder, unless the barrel was about 8 feet long):ghostly:

Review on the Pedersoli Austrian 1798 musket

That's a nice looking musket in the Taylor auction. I may be off but it looks very similar to the French 1777 musket, especially the brass pan on its lock plate.

Miroku 1766 Charleville having Hammer/Frizzen Problems

I have used dry lubes such as powdered Molydbnum. They have really good lubricity and will cling to the surfaces very well. Using this also eliminates the sticky, dirt-attraction of greases.

69 Caliber Buck 'n Ball Ammo?

You should load buckshot in "layers of 3 pellets". For a bore size of .69 (14 GA) you may need to go smaller than the 000BK. I know a 14GA can use layers of #1Buck, or thirty caliber round balls. Of course you can just stack the larger balls on top of each other but the patterning will be...

    Springfield 1795 questions

If you remove the Rammer first, maybe you can insert and twist-lock the bayonet; THEN re-insert the rammer into the stock. Admittedly awkward, but will that work??

    Charlieville Identification

This is an interesting old war horse. Was surprised to see that the touch hole had a bushing installed....and apparently used a great deal since, judging by the enlarged size of the hole.

Nice looking finish, what type of wood was this?

    Paper shot cartridge tutorial

I doubt whether a shotcup made of nitrated paper could protect the shot pattern, due to the paper being incinerated in the barrel. You might experiment with it as a powder packet though...

2nd time at the range with Drachenfeuer

So much fun! As a side note, a 3/32" touch hole was pretty common in large bores, all the way up to & including the flint era.

    Japanese Matchlock Myths

Here's a link showing how to make your own: MatchCord video I order braided hemp cord from hAmazon in diameters from 5/16" up to 1/2". Ashes from the fire pit or BBQ make the lye in boiling water. I process the cord twice and check the quality of the burning end - often don't need the...

If you want to use pre-cut wads, first Measure the diameter of your bore at the muzzle, then visit Track of the Wolf or another seller of wads to get the closest size to fit your barrel. Start here: T O W You can also use other types of wadding such as tow fibers, wasp nest, or possibly even...

    India Torador Matchlock Wall Gun

Yes. I have also loaded using a small air gap (which I filled using a Kapok puff to hold the powder against the flash hole).

    12L14 Steel good enough?

Best wishes to you and your bud on milling. Are you planning to taper the barrel towards the muzzle? Full Octgon or ??

    12L14 Steel good enough?

Sounds impressive - a barrel wall thickness of .625 per side! So long as normal precautions and procedures are used, I would feel very comfortable shooting with that arrangement. Have fun with the build and keep us posted with progress

    Loading Preference

The old guys used to fire a "fouling shot" at the range prior to shooting for their score. You are ON to something here...just remember to clean it real well before putting it away!

This guy really, really wanted a hand gonne

That is pretty neat and really took a good deal of time and hand work - he has every right to be proud! I enjoyed seeing the pinned breech plug - looked like a fairly permanent attachment with the countersunk riveted steel pins (and the epoxied linstock behind the breech). I might have also run...
