    My first kit build

Snapped my first guard doing a cold "encourage". DGW sent new guard. Some heat on the bow and gentle nudging brought it right where it should have been in the first place. Shame on Pedersoli for providing this piece like this.

    Modified Pedersoli Kentucky Flintlock Pistol

Thanks Notchy Bob Nose cap is cast and came with the kit. Underrib is silver soldered. The nose cap design is not the best as it doesn't allow much wood to be inserted. It was supposed to be screwed to barrel. Poor design imho. I drilled, pinned and epoxied it. Won't be coming off soon.

    Modified Pedersoli Kentucky Flintlock Pistol

Note: Be very careful when fitting the trigger guard. Mine broke at the rear of the bow. Be sure to heat it thoroughly with a torch and bend gently. I had to order a replacement from DGW. No cost at least.

Just take your time. Look at some original pistols for some inspiration. And don't use a dremel tool on any wood unless you've got nerves of steel.

GPR as good as they used to be?

I've never had a Lyman product until recently. I bought two GPR kits(percussion and flintlock) and was generally impressed with the quality. I'm not a fan, however of the design of the flintlock, specifically the shape of the hammer and frizzen spring. I also had never worked using European...

    Modified Pedersoli Kentucky Flintlock Pistol

I originally browned the barrel, then rubbed it down with 0000 steel wool to give it an aged and worn look. It was fairly blotchy so I took it down to the bare metal. Heated the barrel and coated with motor oil. It hasn't been fired so we'll see if if it remains rust free.

I've been looking for a .54 cal flintlock pistol to go with my customized Lyman GPR flintlock in .54 cal. I have a .54 GP pistol to match my .54 GPR in percussion. The Pedersoli seemed to fit the bill with some significant changes.

    My Flintlock Gun Rack

This is my gun rack. All were hand built by me back in the 70s and 80s. The bottom one is a modified Centermark fusil de chasse.
