    2024/2025 Squirrel Hunting Thread...........

Didn't get to go Wednesday but made it out to the woods for a bit this afternoon. Took the .40 out this time. It's a Cherokee with a Douglas barrel and weighs next to nothing. A pleasure to carry. Saw no squirrels at all but did have four deer pass by pretty close. No dumplins but still a good...

Wemt over to the dark-side briefly!

Never know when you might need those black rifles. Remember back in 68 when the Germans bombed Pearl Harbor. Could happen again any day now...

FOR SALE New Squirrel Hunting Book................

Finally had a chance to finish this wonderful book today while hanging out with the wife at her Dr appointment. Excellent read. Thanks Ed. I liked all the info but particularly liked the section toward the end about running ball. Good info. I'm sure this book will be reread a time or two more...

    2024/2025 Squirrel Hunting Thread...........

When I was much younger and single that would definitely not be too far for a beer run. But these days, yep, just a touch far. 🤣

    2024/2025 Squirrel Hunting Thread...........

If nothing goes wonky between now and then I'm thinking about trying again Wednesday morning. Had a good time being in the woods and decided to at least take the opportunity for a little target practice. The little .36 is shooting like a champ. You'll have to tell us how that recipe works out...

    2024/2025 Squirrel Hunting Thread...........

Well fellers I finally had the chance to hit the woods for a bit this morning. Beautiful day to be in the squirrel woods. But unfortunately nobody told the squirrels... I did see two. One was on a limb about two feet off the ground maybe 20 feet in front of me. Was getting ready to shoot and he...

HOW TO MAKE A Corncob Pipe

Thanks for the post Dave. That helps me out of a small predicament. Craft show season is on us and, just the other day, I was toying with the idea of adding a loop or pocket to the leather tobacco pouches I make and adding a pipe. Thought folks might like that. Found where to buy these little...

well, the 40 cal. worked again,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,

Was considering the other day that, after I hopefully get a couple deer in the freezer, I might give my .40 a try on some of the small doe we have around here. That is as small as I'd go in caliber but, with what I've seen from an accuracy standpoint for that caliber, I was pretty confident...

    Possibles bag, hard or soft?

What Terry said... I find that I prefer soft bags for the same reasons. Just not a fan of a stiff bag unless it is designed to wear on a belt. Shoulder hanging bags seem to serve me better when medium to soft. And soft doesn't mean wimpy. I've made several soft bags that have been put through...

    36 caliber deer hunting

Na I got it. Was just mashing your taters a little bit. Besides we all know Conicals and modern ammo are just fads. I don't think they will catch on.

    Just about fed up…

This idea is not too popular amongst some folks. But I had this same problem with a CVA or two and a Traditions in the past. I know, a little different breech design. I took the nipples out and used a drill bit just above the size of the existing hole and drilled the nipples out. Never had...

    Traditions Mountain rifle conversion

L&R lock company makes locks for CVA and Traditions if you don't already have one. Don't know the price on a flint lock but I'm thinking about getting the cap lock for my CVA Hawken. It's just a couple hundred bucks. Those barrels are good enough to make that new lock worth the investment...
