    couple of questions

For covering the nipple while walking I use a spent .22 casing. An LR case works fine but I prefer a short. That was a suggestion from another member a couple years ago I tried and it worked. Can't remember who it was or I'd give them credit for it.

    CVA Colonial Pistol Sights

I hadn't either until I stumbled across this one. I think back in the day CVA would make a couple minor changes to an existing model and give it a cool sounding name for whatever reason. This one is exactly the same as the mountain pistol but the sights, size of the grip, and nose cap are...

Man it will be hard to see the antlers while they're still in the tree. Gonna have to start carrying binoculars.

    CVA Colonial Pistol Sights

Don't know about changing the front sight but you can file out the notch on the rear sight to even them up. And the rear sight will be much more useful as you get older. I bought a used CVA Trapper (like the mountain pistol but a little different) the previous owner had done some filing on it...

    Pronghorn down

That's awesome. Your picture is kinda getting me primed for deer season... Good job. What was the distance?

    Grease hole

Yep. For me it is just right in the way. What was CVAJukarTraditions, Inc. thinking with that little tail?

    Grease hole

    Good looking rifle.

    Grease hole

Yep, you got a deal on that one. They are much better guns then some folks would expect. And I'm glad you cut that stupid little tail off the trigger guard. Been thinking about doing that to mine but wasn't sure how it would look. Yours looks good so I'm gonna copy that. Thanks for posting.

    Grease hole

    Tis a beautiful rifle.

    Grease hole

I think back then they used Forstner bits. At least that's what Davy Crockett said on his website.

    Grease hole

Looks good. I actually like grease holes. I guess because when growing up I always wanted a BP rifle but couldn't get one. And seems like all the rifles I saw were SMR type and had grease holes. Pop and them had no interest in black powder so I had too wait about that. I guess that's how I knew...

    FFg in a .45

Me too. Only because that's all I can get around here. I do have a large horn filled with old goex ffffg for pan priming but, for main charges, it's all ffg. That includes my .36 rifle, .32 pistol, .40 rifle, and all the .45 rifles and pistols. No issues.

Experiments with a .32 Kentucky rifle

That is some good testing and information. I recently saw a dude in YouTube kill a deer with a Crockett .32. in the build up to his hunt he did lots of load development and practice and made a good clean kill. Also, when I joined the forum a few years back, there was a pretty regular poster here...

CLOSED TC New Englander Shotgun Barrel

Saw one recently on eBay while looking for a new Englander wood stock. Don't know if it is still there or not.

What to do with pan primer?

Ditto. Mine is on a leather lanyard around my neck with a touch hole pick. Easily accessible. When shooting percussion, which is most of my shooting, a brass capper is on another leather lanyard.

    2024/2025 Squirrel Hunting Thread...........

I haven't shot any yet this year, or last year, so just don't know. I'm guessing, like deer, that is probably the way it is. All I know is it's good to be a buck squirrel...

    Nipple replacement

I've got stainless on a few of my guns and they've held up fine for me. Avoid dry firing and they last a lot longer.
