    Smith carbine help needed

Can anyone point me toward a gunsmith that works on the Smith carbine. Mine has a trigger pull that is measured with a fish scale. It shoots accurately, but the half cock and trigger pull are awful. Any help will be appreciated. Thanks Bunk

    Ballistol

Yes Ballistol does contain a petroleum product (mineral oil) but it has a different organic arrangement that is quite comparable with BP fouling. A 1:10 mix with distilled water is an excellent cleaner and when the water evaporates leaves a nice film of oil protectant. I have had guns so...

    1st time using Paper Cartridges.

Ladies and Gentlemen , If I may add since most of my shooting is done with snubbies which have no loading lever or an 1851 Capt. Schaeffer which almost has no loading lever for me paper cartridges are really not useful. However if I was still shooting C&B revolvers in SASS competition most...

    1st time using Paper Cartridges.

Gentlemen, Very interesting and I am glad you are having such success with them. My paper cartridge use is limited to the Sharps carbine for this reason. That big chunk of lead is expensive so a couple of shots to stay current and check zero is sufficient. However when I get revolvers dirty they...

    The Ruger New/ Old Army

BACK ON THREAD! Realizing that will surprise some people but anyway here we go! With any and all suppository guns selling like hot cakes I seriously doubt Ruger would devote time , labor, and materials for a gun that has such a relatively small market as the Old Army. I had one in stainless and...

    The Ruger New/ Old Army

the scary part of this, unless you missed it, was when we were REQUIRED TO HAND IN our firearms. As a subject there was no option and my heart goes out to you. As a CITIZEN I will not comply and a majority will follow me. Sorry Zonie but I would not let this pass Bunk

    1st time using Paper Cartridges.

yes I have made powder only tubes for my Sharps carbine and for shooting from the bench are very handy. i used curler paper for the tube and it completely is gone upon shooting. Good Luck Bunk

Cap and ball revolver firing bird shot

the 15 grain volume was approximately one half of the chamber volume fo a "square load". It is what I use with ball for plinking. The gasket material is .033" thick yes automotive type. The problem is the small volume of the chamber for shot. that load of 15 grains will flatten a ball at CAS...

Cap and ball revolver firing bird shot

Tried #7.5 shot today in an Pietta 1851 Navy Colt with very little success. The 15 grain volume of FFFg seemed to give good velocity, based on recoil but the pattern was skimpy. The over powder was was made from thin gasket material with a sticky lube felt wad on top, which stayed in place for...

    shot loads 1851 Colt Navy

Testing shot in an 1851 Colt Navy 3 ½ inch barrel. The results so far came out inconclusive since the only shot I had was #7 ½ perhaps a finer shot like #9 might have worked better. The chamber held about 30 grain volume of FFFg GOEX powder. My calculation was a “square load” would be...

    11 caps on a 44 Walker and a 44 New Army ?

Changing caps might make a minuscule but not a noticeable difference in pressure. A number 11 what? A CCI #11 is not the same size as a Remington #10 or #11. It is close but close only counts in horse shoes and hand grenades. A CCI #10 is not the same size as a Remington #10 I posted a...

Cap and ball revolver firing bird shot

I am kind of peeved at the Copperhead family since one bit my eighr year old daughter on the foot causing me great annoyance. Any one can tell you an annoyed Bunk is something to steer clear of. I found that rascal and killed it and every one of the copper colored serpents I see when ever and...

Cap and ball revolver firing bird shot

now that is VERY interesting it does not look like there is much of a hole in the center. Good on you deerstalker that is documented experimentation. And who says Blonds are dumb? Stay safe Bunk

Cap and ball revolver firing bird shot

OK enough is enough it is time for y'all to do the experimenting I am busy loading a hundred metric size unmentionable in those silly brass tube looking things. on a single stage press Then in the next day or so it will be with C&B time in one or the other of my snubbies. Perhaps the .36 Navy...

Cap and ball revolver firing bird shot

agreed that is also how I load my 12 gauge SXS shotgun and the second load must stay tight for one time. In a revolver the load must stay tight for perhaps several shots. Loading a shot round is , in the first place, a pain in the hip pockets and is a specialty load. Other that chasing cans I...

Cap and ball revolver firing bird shot

Exactly right unless you know some one that hand loads the unmentionables and might have some proper size gas checks. In the testing I did not use glue but I have used finger nail polish to glue the bullet in a Hahn paper tube for my Sharps carbine. That makes a very durable attachment and...
