"Use of shot is not permitted"

Many of the pioneers likely didn't care if they shot and wounded a deer to have it run away. There were more around the corner and no game wardens to yell at them. We don't operate that way today. It has been pretty established on this forum that buckshot is pretty mediocre out of a...

    Trade Gun rabbit

In medieval England they hunted them with hand grenades... Great hunting!

    Perfect revolver?

I have a second gen Colt 1860. It is by far the most reliable capper I have ever had. I would trust it for self defense if I had to and not have much anxiety. I know the legendary "paintability" of the 1851 grip style and the similar feel of the later...unmentionable "Colt Army"😅 that was...

    Paper cartridges

Apologies mods I just discovered that a thread a few below mine has been discussing paper cartridges in length...The second part (the historical question) still stands though! Thanks

    Paper cartridges

Hello all, Merry Christmas! I have a few questions about making paper cartridges for a smoothbore. I have a 16 gauge that I want to make paper cartridges for. Any tips/tricks that you guys have experienced? I would like to be as historically correct as possible. A former kit is out of the...

    Patch lube confusion

I have used the Mink oil from Track and really like it. I am really eager to get my hands on some bear fat...I tried to get myself some up in Maine last year but the bears didn't cooperate.

    The Future of Traditional Muzzleloaders?

I have gotten several of my peers into ML shooting. I sold a friend (he is 24) a TVM fowler and convinced him to buy a generic "hawken" as his first rifle because he comes from a family unfriendly towards guns. Anyone that I have let shoot my flintlock rifle at the range starts searching for a...

    Revolver Accouterments

Ive never had any experiences with sledge or sludge or anything like that. I use ballistol exclusively on my black powder guns and have for years. They all go bang very nicely after getting cleaned and put away the previous time.

    Southern rifles

Hello all. What are some generalities about rifles that may have been made/used/found in the Carolina area during the 1770s-1810s? I spent a lot of my childhood on my family's South Carolina farm so I am looking for something that my ancestors may have had. I am not interested in smoothbores...
