TVM Late Lancaster in .45 . . . looking for input.

Everyone here has very passionate opinions about TVM, but the fowler I got from them a while back (that now lives with a friend) was a wonderfully crafted flintlock in every sense. Very nicely made. I can't say anything further because I don't have any experience with any of their rifles. If you...

    Broken ramrod

Thank you for all of your advice everyone!

    Broken ramrod

Yes admittedly it was my fault. I am very careful when I use the wooden rod. Doesn't take more than a quarter-second lapse of carefulness to break something. I sure said a bad word lol.

    Broken ramrod

That is a very kind offer Rich! I would still like to compensate you. Especially if you would be willing/have the time to make two so I have a spare. Either way I would love to take you up on your offer!

    Broken ramrod

I am going to track down someone to make one but I think in the mean time I will glue the rod just so I have something to stick under the barrel lol. Just glad it didn’t go through my hand. It slipped onto my thumb when it broke but (luckily) I didnt put too much pressure on it and it only...

    Broken ramrod

I use a .15 patch with a .520 ball and I can thumb start it. I was just careless and slipped. I love using the .520 instead of a .530 specifically because I can thumb start it and still get nice accuracy for deer at 100 yards.

What Muzzleloading Stuff Did You Do Today?

Today I broke my first ram rod and almost let some daylight through my hand... Not a happy camper.

    Broken ramrod

Well guys I had a terrible day at the range. The rifle shot great but I snapped the ramrod in the cold. It is not in two pieces. Just held together very thinly. Will good wood glue work? I always hear that the glued spot is stronger than the original wood but I want to be really sure before I...

Anyone know much about civil war sharpshooters ?

Absolutely! On the Southern side there would have been absolutely zero uniformity. Not to say a wealthy guy didn't buy a bunch of his men nice rifles or some such thing somewhere, but on the whole, only the North issued sharpshooting rifles on a unit wide, standardized level.

Anyone know much about civil war sharpshooters ?

I could be completely wrong but I think a heavy bench rifle with a telescopic sight is mentioned being found behind Southern lines in some small scene from one of Shelby Foote's three Civil War volumes. This could just be my brain inserting something from somewhere else, but I think it may have...

Anyone know much about civil war sharpshooters ?

From what I understand other than the odd lucky guy with a Whitworth etc, any sharpshooters on the Southern side would have had some assortment of bench or target guns. Especially if it was in the East. This was just because of simple availability and explains the massive weight of some of the...

Referring to a Smoothbore as a Smoothie

I am glad no one had this attitude toward me when I first started out. I doubt I would have ever found myself here.

    Hello from Lynchburg VA

Welcome! The last baseball pitch I ever threw still hasn't landed thanks to a student from Lynchburg College. Beautiful area. I am sure you could find some of our members around the Virginia area that could point you toward powder and maybe let you experience shooting one of their guns. I think...

    Holy Grail Flintlock Pistols

I agree with deerstalker. Send them to me and I will take care of all the shipping for you…😂. Were any originals ever made in this manner? I know there were some rifles but this is the first time I have seen something like this. So, so cool.
