    Simple question…..

I dont know why folks still use any sort of knees. A darn hassle to get off, and as soon as you do, you have rain on it. A crayon applied to the upper and lower lip of the pan seals it. Ive heard lip balm works, but have never tired it. Here in the pacific North Wet, EVERY hunting season and...

How do you measure the bore in a rifle?

I use casting lead, sometimes called chamber lead. I take a coat hanger (wire) make a jag on the end with the wire. tie a pile of cleaning patches onto it. stuff it down the barrel (with a 1/4 in dowel) Then pour the casting lead down the barrel to the patches. Wait till it cools and pull it...

    Wheel weight lead question

Stop using them tinker toys and get a pancake compressor. Just point he barrel in a safe direction. The ball comes out real fast. I take WW lead crank the furnace up to 1000 degrees and scoop all the tin that rises out. Turns out about number 2 lead, so says my Sarco lead gauge. Good enough...

    Homemade percussion caps

Have not seen a Tap-O-Cap since the 90s. This is the current thing, and it works way better than the old Tap-O-Cap. https://22lrreloader.com/

    Ultrasonic cleaner for revolvers?

I was in the carburetor business for years. I use a sonic cleaner all the time. Never thought of using it for the 1860. Next fall I might try it before I put it away for the winter.

    New to flints

The rest of the rifle falls a part. Thats what happened to mine. A killer lock smith made my 1803 HF run like it never had before. It still had a heavy hammer drop, but fired every time. (After a $150 tune up and spring grind). The woman and I shot it so much that the brass hardware broke...

    Anyone you know?

Fully dressed I went into a 7-11 and two teenage girls called the cops on me for carrying a "sword". It was my 9 inch Bowie. They told the cops Id be easy to spot. I look like a movie extra. I had on my hawk and knife. The first thing the cops said was where is my rifle. I told him in the car...

    Slow ignition

I have one better. Use a measured pan charger. My Rev war British warrant pan charger drops 1.5gr every time. Any pan charger with a measured spout will do. They all over the place.

Nitrating paper ..besides hurting stupid takes time!

Gun of the Wests paper cartridge kit makes the papers tight and perfectly round. Using a drop tube to compact the powder and the cartridge is packed hard and the ball just seats on top. Have not had one tear yet.

Interesting Cap & Ball Paper Cartridge Information

It takes me about 20 minutes to load the cylinder by hand. It takes about 3 hours to make 48 paper carts that load in about a minute at the range. The soldiers didnt have to make their own. Unlike when they introduced the 45/70 in 1873.
