    Not toys

Never met anyone who thought they were “toys”. If they are out there I hope to avoid them forever.

Making a wedge for the 1860

I don’t have an outfitted shop or a Ph.D in metalworking. Why not just buy one from VTI?

    Never Seize grease on arbor

Lubriplate 630 AA non-petro white lithium grease on full length of arbor. Most folks and I only use anti-seize on cone threads.

    Wedge basics

Whew! Get up, go outside and breathe some fresh air. Jeez.

Grease or Oil on the Arbor

STP: If it’s petroleum based then it’s a loosing proposition.

    Is This Worth It?

Sure, that’s a Walker but In Larry McMurtry’s book Lonesome Dove McCray carries a Dragoon. It was Deets that carried a Walker, with a broken hammer spur. It was noted that Deets was the only man in the Hat Creek outfit “stout” enough to pack one all day. In the movie Call uses an 1860 but...

    Lack of cylinder safety pins

Any rational calculation of a risk involves two factors, likelihood & gravity: The likelihood of a mishap occurring; The gravity of the harm should a mishap occur. The likelihood here may be low but the consequences potentially catastrophic. That’s why I’m sticking with the hammer down on an...

Why are the bottom of some Uberti grip frames (Colt Dragoon) not parallel to the barrel? (and can this be fixed?)

I don’t know whether to take the OP seriously or not but some of the responses here are next level OCD.

Trouble loading lee conical into cylinders

Nomenclature matters. Cylinders contain chambers, usually six. Chambers are where the lead goes. Springer is right, using .454’s may simplify things.

    Chainfires - the skinny? Maybe....

Those aren’t really shooters, they just happen to be in possession of a Walker for the afternoon.

To much is made of short arbors

How old is too old to entertain or consider varying ideas? How old is too old to learn something you can admit you didn’t already know? I’m not there yet - hope I never am. As far as “wasting space” goes, it’s not like you’re paying rent on a storage shed, bub.

    Wedge basics

No hammers! Use a resin or leather mallet. Mike Beliveau has the best assembly / disassembly vids. Takes newbs all the way through the drill and back again.

    Need help with sloppy wedge

VTI GunParts for a new wedge. Don’t know if a new one would be wider than the one you have. It’ll be brand new though.

Dribble? Is that what it is?

    It’s an original then, right?

    Pietta 1860 colt army

There is more flexibility here than beginners ever imagine. There are about one-hundred ways to load these things - all of them correct. Try 25 grains for starts. On a .44 I range between 25 and 35 grains. Thirty grains verges on perfection. Can’t overload if a ball still fits. Take that...

    Refinished 1851 navy

Keep carding and bring the frame and brass up to speed.

Why are there no 40 cal Revolvers?

It’s not a problem at all. Colt did a prototype on a 51 Navy type in .40 but it did not fly. They moved on to the .44 1860.

Appropriate cylinder gap for Colt revolvers

So … No money cause clubby mean-tweets and reasons. Talk about off-key? The guy’s killin it.
