I recently picked up this 1858 Remington New Army and has hoping someone could give me a guestimate on it's manufacture-ship date. It has obviously been refinished but whoever did the work had a light hand with the polisher. The bore is in pretty good shape with sharp lands and grooves and the serial # is 57425. Thx in advance, Doc.

A lot of people wouldn't like the fact that it has been refinished, (that "patina" stuff).
Whoever did it did a really nice job - it looks great to me! Old Mr. Remington would be proud of it.
I have two books on these revolvers, and will try to find something about that serial number.

Thanks Jim, I appreciate the help. As I bought it mainly for a shooter the original finish wasn't a concern. It's well balanced, the action is smooth, locks up tight with no end shake, and the numbers on the barrel and frame match. I am building a small collection of 2nd Gen Colts, shooters and safe queens, but the Remington has gotten my attention now also.
