Last night I swapped out the triggers on my GPR from factory to Davis Deerslayer. Took it to the range this morning and burned half a pound of 3F. Unfortunately the wind was moving away from the firing line and hardly got to smell any smoke.
Great deals can be found on here for entry level percussion reproductions that we generally refer to as hawkens. For Colorado elk I would opt for a .54 but a .50 would serve well if legal.
I am trying to understand what a snaplock is. Is it correct to say that it is a matchlock that the lock snaps into the firing position from a resting position instead of the gradual movement via a lever of a true matchlock?
There probably is but with all the youtube content out there that is the way to educate yourself IMO. I would start with Mike Beliveau's channel duelist1954 or the Guns of the West channel.
