NGD: Pietta 1858 Remington New Army

As to the short arbor. None of the Uberti Remingtons have one. Only the Colts. You can replace the ram with one made for a Uberti. Uberti’s are made for RB or Conicals.

    Pietta or Uberti 1858 Remington

If you got the coin for it get the Pedersoli 1858 Remington Pattern Custom revolver. It will be tuned, and accurate right out of the box. It ain’t cheap though. Twice the coins of either Pietta or Uberti. If you’re not rolling in potatoes get the Uberti. I have two of them. I had to tune...

    Which 1858 Remington to get

True, unless you polish them! Mine are Uberti. If I were to get one today, I would get the Pedersoli custom version. It is the most accurate right out of the box. 2X expensive as the Uberti though, and it only comes in matte black these days. Midway has them in stock recently!

Is it recommended to bore out cylinder to barrel diameter on Italian replica revolvers?

Great info. Especially the Cerosafe tip! I will try using a plug gauge through the bore and see if there are tight spots then. I just judge that by feel, when I am slugging the bore. Of course a slight restriction would not be detected my way. I wouldn’t force a plug gauge into a tight...

    Cylinder Loading Tool

Good to see that. Did they replace the part or did you have to buy a new piece. I believe they should have given you the broken part for free.

    Cylinder Loading Tool

I would contact Powder Inc about that break. They might replace that broken part. I have the older style I have had for years. Never a problem. They changed that part however and it looks like it is cast now. Weaker? I don’t know, but I would talk to them about it for sure.

Is it recommended to bore out cylinder to barrel diameter on Italian replica revolvers?

Interesting. In slugging my barrels I have not found a tight spot that would need lapped out. I’ve been lucky I guess. Do you use a plug gauge as a lap, or a brass lap you turn down to bore diameter? I do chamfer my cylinder mouths, and also lap them for easier loading. I use Brownell’s...

    Champfer?

I chamfer the cylinder throats. Then I lap the 45 degree chamfer to polish it. Makes loading easier, if you use a ball that is a couple of thousands over cylinder chamber size. It does compress the balls, rather than cutting lead. It works well with the Quick 6 Loader from RMC Ox-Yoke too.

Me too! It helps if you chamfer your cylinder throats too. I even have this Quick Six loader from RMC Ox-Yoke. It works very well too.
