My little tip of the hat to "The Revenant"

Good job on that canteen. I just recently watched "The Revenant" for about the third time. I don't know why but this time I was struck by how much snow and cold was in the movie. I don't think I have watched a movie with that much snow and cold since watching "Dr. Zhivago". Both were great...

    Flintlock vs Percussion

Yep :metoo: I've got both kinds and love both. A flintlock is sort of like a kid that requires a bit more attention in their raising. They may be trying at times but you don't love them any less.

    taking aim

I was in the Marines in the late 50s and spent a lot of time on the range with an M1 Garand. I really don't remember any specific directions on offhand shooting with regard to coming down on a target but that is how I did it. That M1 weighed 9.5 pounds empty and almost 10 pounds with a full...

    Delrin as ramrod material

It sounds as if you are looking for a good range rod (as opposed to a rod to carry under your barrel). I never use anything but brass for my range rod. I have tried Delrin and fiberglass but I always return to my good old brass rods. I really don't like Delrin because it is way too flexible...

    Browning after rust remover

:metoo: Good advice! It is always easier and you get better results with a nice sharp file. Do not go cheap on your file either. Buy a good file. It will not be cheap but it will pay for itself in the long run.

    Browning after rust remover

Hoppe's makes a bluing remover that you can use to remove the bluing and it won't interfere with the browning process. Just be sure to use it as directed. I have always used acetone to remove any traces of grease after using the bluing remover. You need to use it before the bluing remover but...

    Coning tool

My opinion, for what it's worth, is to go ahead and cone your barrel if that is what you want to do. I have coned 3 or 4 of my barrels and it has had no effect on accuracy nor POI. I have a tool that is universal in that it will cone any caliber barrel. In use, you just use the correct size...

    Dirty Patches

I've found that the 3-M pot scrubber pads make good scouring patches for cleaning your bore. Just cut patches from a piece of the scrubber pad, oil it with a good machine oil such as 3 in 1 and then scrub your bore. You may need to change the patch a few times so that you are always using a...

    hydrostatic shock or not?

Yep, ya got me!! You are right and I had used the wrong words. :headslap: The result of a projectile striking an animal (or water jug) is hydrostatic effect. If the hydrostatic effect is sufficient, it can result in hydrostatic shock. Good catch!

    hydrostatic shock or not?

Hydrostatic shock by definition is the result of a penetrating projectile (such as a bullet) producing a pressure wave that causes "remote neural damage", "subtle damage in neural tissues" and/or "rapid incapacitating effects" in living targets. It does not matter what propelled the projectile...

Why are or aren't you an NMLRA member?

Yes, there are a few but none near me that I know of, none near me listed in Muzzle Blasts. :idunno:

Why are or aren't you an NMLRA member?

I joined NMLRA several years ago when I lived in Indiana. I attended every spring and fall match at Friendship and thoroughly enjoyed doing so. Now, I live in Texas and have a much smaller chance of finding like-minded friends with whom to shoot. I have found a few but, I have found no NMLRA...

Cleaning the TVM flintlock with the bolt on flint flush kit

Well, I read all of the responses to your video and saw that some of the folks just didn't like the flush kit. I, too, had one and it didn't fit any of my flintlock rifles. I gave it away. However, it is obvious that you have had good results with your flush kit. I say, don't listen to the...

    Leaving Powder in horns

I understand your safety concerns and agree for those who use more than one granulation. But, I use only Goex 3f in all of my rifles. I do have a couple of cans of Goex 2f but that was for my shotguns which I no longer have. Those cans are never opened now that I have only rifles to load...

Well, that's what you get for moving to The Ark. You should have stayed in Texas. :haha:

    period vent repair

I had the same type of repair done to a rifle that I once had. It was a .32 cal. Pedersoli. There was a factory defect in that the "clean out" hole had been tapped oversize and as a result, the screw had very little thread engagement. The consequence of this was that after a few shots, the...

Range Report - A wonderful Sunday Morning

I understand your feelings. I didn't buy the vile thing, it was given to me to try. I tried it and now it is part of the Austin Rifle Club ground because I gave it a good toss after removing it from the cock on my rifle. Hopefully, it will be trampled into the soil and no other poor soul will...

    Leaving Powder in horns

Whether you can leave powder in your horn will depend on how well it seals out air and moisture. Some well-made horns will seal up well enough that you can leave your powder in them with no ill effects. Most cheap horns will not seal up well and your powder can likely become clumped in your...
