    Brand new

Jim Kibler's in Ohio or Kentucky I'm pretty sure. Still good advice, his Colonial kit would fill the need if it's within your budget and you felt confident building it (or getting a bit of help from someone).

    Bear gun oil.

Wish I would have thought of this a few days ago anyway because I made a TOTW order and could have saved on additional shipping by buying one or more then.

    Bear gun oil.

Very nice and I'll likely purchase one for myself, but I was kind of looking for something pretty inexpensive that I could get, put the oil in and give as gifts to my brothers and some close friends. I like them well enough to give them the oil, but I don't like any of them THIS well. ;)

    Bear gun oil.

So I just made this gun oil out of bear fat. It appears to have turned out very good. I've used it before and it's a fabulous lubricant and protectant. I'm just curious if anyone has any ideas for small containers that I can store it in and be able to deploy it without making a horrible mess.

    .62 rifle project is done

Williamsburg itself is in Blair County, although Mark lives a few miles east of the town. I'm guessing he's probably in Blair, but it surely doesn't matter one way or the other. The rifle really is a beauty for sure. Hawken/plains rifles aren't really my cup of tea (I'm currently trying to...

    .62 rifle project is done

By the way and purely out of curiosity, but is Mark in Huntingdon County or in Blair?

    .62 rifle project is done

Wow, it really looks nice. I was down to Mark's shop a couple of times early this year because he was inletting a couple of stocks for barrels for me and he does indeed do some fine work. You said it's a Colerain barrel, what are the dimensions, weight of the final rifle? As I said, looks...

    Conical bullets?

The Hornady PA conical and the Buffalo ballet both shoot reasonably well out of some of my slow-twist rifles. At least in my case, they both shoot considerably better with a wad over the powder and shoot very nearly as well as patched round balls in some of my rifles.

    Pinning barrel tenons....

Yes, that's what I typically use, but I don't have anything larger than 3/32 inch right now.

    Pinning barrel tenons....

Like I said, he's struggling with some health issues and has lost his mojo, so I'm really trying not to ask him too many pointless questions about how he did this or how he'd like me to go about that. So far, he actually seems to be having a little bit of fun knowing that I'm happy to finish...

    Pinning barrel tenons....

Good idea and a nice, clean looking solder/tenon job.

    Top jaw screw size....

    Thanks.

    Pinning barrel tenons....

Must have been my day for stupid questions. I also asked a question about a large Siler lock part on a separate thread and answered my own question 5 minutes later by doing my due diligence as I should have before posting the question.

    Top jaw screw size....

Never mind, it was a stupid question. Not only is the answer, "Yes, the 1/4"-20 top jaw screw fits a large Siler", but TOTW has all of the parts for each lock listed. All you have to do is click on the lock and it has a drop down of all the replacement parts. I should have (and probably DID)...

    Pinning barrel tenons....

I just checked TOTW and they have 1/8" brass pins and I'm sure that will be fine, so I'll go ahead and order 10 of them.

    Pinning barrel tenons....

I have a friend who's a very good gun builder, much better than I am. He's run into some health issues and although he's presently doing well, he's lost the desire and mojo needed to continue building guns, at least for the time being. He had one mostly built for a customer and he's anxious...

    Top jaw screw size....

I'm doing some work for a friend and he's got a lock with the top jaw screw bent pretty badly, which leads me to two questions. I can't even back the screw out presently because of the bend. If I were to heat it with a torch, do you suppose I could back it out or should I just try to cut it...

    Failure to fire rate

I have to admit that my fail to fire rate is way more than zero. It's still a very small percentage, but I do occasionally get a flash that doesn't set off the main charge and occasionally drop the hammer and fail to get a flash. I've been hunting and shooting with flintlocks for at least...

    Turkey load

Not sure why you'd put the wool wad over the overshot card. Over the overpowder card, sure.

    Re-brown a barrel

Yes, you can re-do it easily. Just draw file or sand the barrel down to bare steel. I just did one of mine that was browned years ago and which I've never been particularly happy with and it now looks great.
