    Spot and Stalk Mulie

I managed to take this 4X4 mulie Sunday afternoon above the Snake River in Washington with my .62 T/C Hawken and .595 ball in front of 90 gr of Goex 2f. I spotted him from almost a mile away but couldn't tell if he was a legal 3 point, so I sneaked in and sat just above him on the rimrock. He...

    Where to buy lead shot?

    Rotometals.com has 25# lead #5 for $74.99, 10# bismuth 5 for $169, and 10# copper plated lead #5 for $49.99. Take your pick.

Value of a T/C New Englander 12g Fowler

It's going to depend a little on the area of the country, but I'd also say Northforks numbers are probably pretty close. I picked one up on this forum about 12 - 15 years ago that was basically new for $250 and then found a brand new .54 barrel for another $150. I've used it for both upland...

SOLD Green Mountain Percussion .58 Drop-in Barrel

Green Mountain Drop-in Barrel for Thompson Center Hawken or Renegade, 1" octagonal x 32", .58 caliber, 1:70 twist, in as-new condition. I got this several years ago on a used T/C Hawken and have never shot it. I believe it may have been unfired or had been shot very little by the previous...

    SOLD T/C Hawken .54 Barrel

54 caliber Thompson Center Hawken percussion barrel that is usable as is, but would be better as a donor, in my opinion. The bore somewhat rusted but has little rifling remaining. The top flat has what I assume are scope mount screw holes behind the rear sight. The breech plug is in OK...

    SOLD T/C Cherokee .45 Barrel

45 caliber Cherokee barrel that is usable as is, but would be better as a donor, in my opinion. I shot it once and it seemed to work fine, but the bore is severely rusted and appears to have had scope mount screw holes welded up and filed flat as seen by the off-color bluing behind the rear...

CVA .45 kit rifle - max load?

50 gr Goex 2f, .440 ball, and .15 patch in a .45 Seneca from about 40 yards did this Montana doe in. For hunting, I wouldn't think you'd need more than possibly 80 gr of 2f in a 45, especially with a prb. With a conical maybe as high as 90 gr, but not in a light gun like a Seneca as they had...

    Choosing a caliber/barrel for a flintlock

Have you considered a smoothbore fowler? For a more dual purpose use, being able to use shot or ball might be a better option for you rather than having to head shoot small game or birds.

Help needed designing .62 cal percussion rifle

Just thinking out of the box here, so take it for what it's worth, but could your gunmaker build a sight for you?

    Smoothbore Elk

Probably no more difficult than other game. They do live in some pretty brushy areas which are often wet and rainy. Probably the hardest thing in Washington, at least, is to gain access to quality land. Much of the better property is owned by timber companies and they charge for access, often...

    Smoothbore Elk

Not out of a smoothbore, but I have taken a small Roosevelt bull with a .62 roundball over 90 gr. of 2f Goex at about 40 yards. One shot, went 14 steps and was down. I can't imagine that same ball out of a smoothbore would have had any different results.
