Thank you for allowing me to be a member of this forum. The knowledge base here is incredible and very helpful. A friend gave me a no name Hawkins, but the barrel is rusted out and the percussion lock is unreliable. It's a wall hanger now... I then ordered a Investarms Hawkins. Unfortunately, the barrel is blued but unpolished from the rear sight forward. It is going back. Now have a .50 Pedersoli Tryon on order. Hopefully, third time is a charm! Jo at Dixie Arms has been wonderful to work with. The info that the members of this forum provided was instrumental is my decision. It's a lot of money, but am convinced that it will be worth it. Thanks again for the collective wisdom!

Welcome from Oklahoma.
Don't understand what you mean by unpolished?

The barrel is nice and smooth from the breech plug until the rear sight. Then there are mill marks on all of the flats clear to the muzzle. When I showed my wife, she said, "Must have been a shift change and just didn't get finished". Smart woman. I could strip the finish and sand it down, but don't want to do that on a brand new rifle. Really wanted a Tryon anyway, just didn't want to spend the money. Oh well...

Ok gotcha, wasn't sure if you meant that it had like a matte finish instead of a more glossy one.
So much for the QC department.
Investarm usually produces a good rifle from all I've read.

I have a 54 Tryon. I understand that he worked at the Hawken Shop. Love the back action lock and the accuracy of the rifle. Once you have it shooting center, you will never have to to touch the sights again.

I sure hope so! Right now I am 0 and 2.LOL. The Tryon was a lot of money, but I believe in the buy once, cry one theory of aquiring things. Jo at Dixie said that she would pick me out a "pretty one". She was great to work with. Nice lady. Highly recommend Dixie just based on her. Thank you all for the warm welcome!
