    Carson Smoothbore

Found this in a small gun shop last week, and wonder if anyone knows when or who made it. It’s marked “Carson 00015 20 GA”. 42” octagon to round browned barrel, flintlock. Small rear sight with a bead front. Haven’t pulled the barrel yet to check for any other markings. The lock sparks very...

    patch cutter

I use a hole saw for my patches also. Before you grind the teeth off, use it to cut a hole in a block of wood. Use this hole as a guide when cutting patches. Sandwich the material between 2 blocks of wood, with the one with the hole in it on top. I usually fold my fabric several times and jut...

    T/C New Englander

Thats good to know, don't have to limit myself to a New Englander barrel. The key word in my above post was "cheap", would be nice to get a 50 caliber barrel for it if it was cheap enough.

    T/C New Englander

If I could get it cheap enough, I have a bunch of 50 caliber roundballs and nothing to shoot them in. I sold my only 50 a couple of years ago.

Thanks, not much interested in the shotgun barrel, but would like to have the 50.

Does anyone know if the 50 caliber New Englander uses the same stock as the 54 caliber?

Where do you get your lead

If anyone is interesed, Ace Iron and Metal Recycling in Columbus Ohio sells scrap lead for 48 cents/lb. Bought 83 lbs of sewer pipe today for $40. Got all the pipe they had, but there was some bits and pieces still in the big box they use as a bin. The plumbing supply house I went to sells lead...

    NEED A FEW 45 CONICALS

PM me your address, I've got about five 45 conicals I've had for probably 15 years in one of my boxes. Don't remember where they came from, or who made them, but you're welcome to 'em.

    Lubing Minies Prior to Shooting

Here's my lazy way. Put a mix of wax and crisco in a small pot when I'm casting close to my lead pot. After the mix is melted, I dump 10 or so minies in at a time, then fish them out with a spoon, and let cool. Seems to work alright, and they shoot just fine.

    CVA Hawken

I "think" it was marked made in USA, but not positive. Won't be able to get back there until Wednesday or Thursday, but if he still has it, I'll buy it, now that I know what it is.

    CVA Hawken

In a pawn shop today and saw a CVA Hawken rifle, caplock, but it looked a little different than the one I had years ago. This was a half-stock 50 caliber, with what looked like a pewter endcap, and the wedgeplates also, I think. The barrel was held by two wedges, not just one. Overall decent...

    Percussion Rifle

Been doing some research, and according to Ron Gabels website (GabelGuns.com) the lock is probably an original, sounds like a late Elwell lock from 1840-1855. He was a Seneca County Ohio lockmaker. I found one reference to a H.T. Wood gunmaker, it was a percussion rifle for sale on a website...
