Had a good afternoon in Western, PA

Well done! I shot an 8 point on the first Tuesday of buck season with an unmentionable. I grabbed the one antler to roll him over to field dress and it popped off in my hand. The other antler dropped off after I rolled him down the mountain side. I guess he was getting ready to shed them soon.

    Needed meat...

You certainly had a great day out in the field with your trusty companion. I finished reaming out the rifling on my 45 cal kit gun. I'm anxious to get back out to the range and do some load development. Are the pheasants around you native or do they stock birds like here in PA?

    Trade Gun rabbit

Congrats on your kill. I went out yesterday with an unmentionable 1897 shotgun looking for squirrels and rabbits. Unfortunately, I didn't see hide nor hair of either. Your trade gun is very handsome. Did you build it of purchase it assembled? Please give details.

Thompson Center hawken fine rust removal

I've been following Mark Novac's YouTube channel regarding firearm conservation. He is a firm believer in boiling firearms to clean goo and to convert rust on metal. I also have experience rust bluing unmentionable rifles and shotguns. I'm a believer. It may seem like a PIA but it is easy to...

    .45 Caliber Shotgun Advice

Hi Dave. Thanks for your response. This kit stared out as a rifle. I tried some shotgun loads with rifling but results were less than desireable.

    .45 Caliber Shotgun Advice

Just wanted to report back on my progress on the 45. This weekend, I was able to hand ream the bore on the rifle. I took my time and frequently cleaned the reamer and lubed with cutting oil. The job is now finished! I will say that reaming took me 2 days to finish. I reamed until the end of the...

    .45 Caliber Shotgun Advice

I had the day off from work so I loaded up the 45 flintlock and a couple unmentionables and headed out to the range. This was my first attempt at shooting a muzzle loading "shotgun." I really had a fun time. I was able to hit paper at 25 yards but the pattern wasn't the greatest. I have a reamer...

    .45 Caliber Shotgun Advice

Where did you buy your reamer? This barrel is 36 inches long. I would need reamer extensions.

    .45 Caliber Shotgun Advice

I wondered if I could hone out the bore without sending the barrel out. I was surfing the net for info. Tanks for the input.

I wasn't planning on investing any more money on this firearm. Just thought that I would give it a try with shot.

    Old guns and old men

I have had a love for 18th century history and muzzle loaders since I was a young boy. It is so exciting to build build a firearm from components, finish it however you want and be able to take it to the range or woods. I do not own a black gun and really don't have any interest in them.
