I took a walk this afternoon for squirrels and couldn't find one. So I started kicking brush piles. Seems stupid since I have 2 good rabbit dogs at home in their kennels.
Anyhow, I kicked up 2. The first one ran a short spell and stopped so I blasted where I last saw it. Dead rabbit!
As far as the 2nd rabbit, I saw a greenbriar tangle so I eased up and looked into the brush pile and could see it's black bead eye... Very seldom do I pick them out but this one I did...so I got on the ready and stepped up closer, it darted out, did a 180 and zig zagged down across and all I can say is there was fire, smoke and leaves flying up everywhere but the rabbit was still goin'.
So much fun.
what load did you use? was the gun a 20 bore?

Congrats on your kill. I went out yesterday with an unmentionable 1897 shotgun looking for squirrels and rabbits. Unfortunately, I didn't see hide nor hair of either.
Your trade gun is very handsome. Did you build it of purchase it assembled? Please give details.

In response to several questions here, it is a NW Trade Gun kit from Pecatonica.
I went with a 3' Rice 20 ga.
Opposed to the L&R Queen Anne lock, I asked for a Chambers Virginia, that lock is awesome, so well built, fast and sparks like crazy.
I have a YouTube video on the build. Look up my channel B Kauffman and search My 2nd grade gun build.

Load was 140 grains of homemade powder. Yes I'm not crazy... 140 grains, the stuff isn't as strong as commerical powders so I just dump two 70 grain measures with down the tube!
Half a cushion wad spit lubed, about 1.25 oz of #6 shot with an over shot card.

Do you actually eat them, or?

Well, had rabbit once. Must have been cooked wrong but chewing on a piece of garden hose would be a close match to it? IMHO. There is also a thing called Rabbit Famine or something like that , It states that you can literally starve eating Rabbit because it has zero nutrients, etc in it that will keep you alive.

Just another internet myth.

Rabbit Famine only effects a certain group of humans.

Those who can't shoot straight.
