No more trail cameras allowed in Utah

Not so. They only tell you what is in the area where you have a camera. I just started using them and have not been any more successful than I was before. The majority of sightings are at night and unless you are a jacklighter, you will not notice a difference.

    Tribute

My best hunting buddy died 2 yrs ago. I still miss him. Helluva guy.

    New Hunter

That's great but be extra careful. New, first-time hunters feel pressure to score and sometimes do very unsafe things trying to show they are competent.

    Hunting in the Big City

Minneapolis allows bow hunting in certain areas of the city to reduce deer. I grew up hunting rabbits and squirrels in Chicago with a recurve bow and a BB gun. It was illegal but kids don't pay attention to that ... until they get caught. Now there are deer there plus coyotes and a couple...

    Big Sigh….

Generally, when shooting downwards, one needs to aim a bit low unless the deer is very close. It sounds as if your shot was high and shocked the spine so the animal dropped. A shot under the spine will shock the animal and sometimes allow it to heal completely as there is a non-vital space...

How To Stop a Moving Buck Deer

For some reason I always forget to go "Baaa" when the season opens. After the first deer gets away in bow season, I do it from then on.

    Tennessee ML opener tomorrow!

Even though clear cuts are ugly as heck, they produce more deer than mature forests do. Just keep your eyes peeled, watch the wind, and you will probably be successful. Good luck!

    Opening day

I absolutely HATE to lose a deer. For 15 years I didn't have to worry because my little Boykin found every wounded one. She even managed to finish one off by drowning it in a swamp before I got there. Unfortunately, she passed on this last April. They just don't live long enough and leave their...

    Hawken Clone Drops a Doe

I had hunted for 8 consecutive days prior to getting that doe. I only saw two does in that period of time ... NO bucks.

    Hawken Clone Drops a Doe

I stopped eating any meat associated with the CNS after CWD started. All meat is boned out; no saws used.

    Hawken Clone Drops a Doe

It's a Sile Hawken Hunter. I've had it since the early '80s. .50 cal with a 1:28 twist. It's short and easier to maneuver than my T/C Hawken.

    Hawken Clone Drops a Doe

A friend with doe tags invited me to hunt on Halloween so I grabbed my caplock and showed up. I got there late (about 9:00 AM) so rushed off to a ladder stand. After sitting for only 20 minutes, a doe showed up with 2 others in tow. She must have sensed I was there because she took her sweet...

    Goose down!

Thanks for the verification. I had 8 domesticated greylags several decades ago. I remember :dunno: them as having pink bills????? ( My memory, I must confess, ain't what it used to be.)

Is the goose a specklebelly?? (whitefront) The youngster's mallard is nice.

    A good day grouse hunting.

:thumb: Nice white meat, usually very tender. Cook any way you cook chicken. I like to pluck, split in half lengthwise with shears and sprinkle with Tony Chachere's Creole seasoning after rubbing with olive oil. Place on grill for 2-3 minutes each side or in the broiler for the same amount of...

Made a hike out of it.

For years my brother and I have been miscalling those Elderberries. Thanks for the lesson.
