CVA flintlock rebuild (lots of pics)

You're right there Kurt! My portable benchtop is a piece of an old table which was left in my house when I moved in. When I was in the furnituremaking business my bench top looked like the surface of the moon. Now I make due with whatever I have on hand! Thanks for Noticing!LOL :rotf:

    Replacing CVA Barrel

How to clean is a great question. As it turned out I only had to drill into the tip of the breech plug and was able to file a smooth shallow channel to the center of the plug face. Shouldn't be much harder to clean then without the channel. I was fortunate that I wasn't off as much as I...

CVA flintlock rebuild (lots of pics)

Hey Folks, Well, I jumped in and began the work of rebuilding my old (35 years old) CVA flintlock. So far I've replaced the barrel with a new Ray barrel, shortened to around 6" (just for fun) and drilled a new vent. In order for the pan and vent to line up properly (the new breech plug...

    Replacing CVA Barrel

That's an interesting idea about drilling into the breech plug and then filing a channel. I suppose as long as I'm not too far back into the plug I shouldn't compromise the integrity of the breech. Seems like the ignition would still work well. Thanks for the tip.... great idea. Now I'm...

    Replacing CVA Barrel

Sorry runball, I cut the barrel ages ago to use for sizing, forms, etc. Don't still have the breech original breech plug. I wish I had taken measurements on the breech though so I could compare. Thanks to everyone for your suggestions.

    Replacing CVA Barrel

Please help :shocked2: When I was a kid (too many years ago to remember) I purchased a CVA (I think) Kentucky flintlock kit. Well, at the time I only had a few tools, fewer skills, but a lot of enthusiasm. Somehow I got it together.... no showpiece, but I was really proud of it. I shot it...

    Blue Grouse Underhammer Rifles?

:hmm: I recently found the web site for Blue Grouse Underhammer Rifles and kits. Prices are great.... and I am somewhat intrigued by the style. Has anyone ever bought from these folks? They make some big claims about accuracy. Just wondering. Aim Small, Miss Small! :v

    Greetings from SC!

Sorry I can't find any photos of my powder horns, but here's a few pics of a few nordic knives, my pirogue boat, a repro of a Pacific NW style bow and one of the wood turnings I've made over the last few years. I'm working on some powder horns right now and some rifleman style knives as we...

    Greetings from SC!

I'm mostly an informal target shooter who loves the smell of BP! Have put together a kit or two, but am tryin' to work up the nerve to go it from scratch. Also love to make powder horns and other accoutrement. Just finished a small forge to hammer a little iron. Great to find such a quality...

    Tennesse Valley Mfg. kits

I'm a little confused. From the TVM website they say ... "Our kits come with the barrel and ramrod channels are completely inlet. The locks and triggers are inlet about 90%, leaving some of the final fitting to the builder. Barrels have the breech plugs installed and the dovetails are cut for...
