Hey Folks,

Well, I jumped in and began the work of rebuilding my old (35 years old) CVA flintlock. So far I've replaced the barrel with a new Ray barrel, shortened to around 6" (just for fun) and drilled a new vent. In order for the pan and vent to line up properly (the new breech plug extended past the pan) I drilled into the breech plug and filed a trough to reach the powder charge. I may cone the touch hole to improve ignition if necessary.

By the way.... with the 6" barrel the gun just melts in my hand (enough weight for balance, but not so much so that you would notice it.)

So here's some pics to show where I've come to so far...... more to come.

A Special thanks to all you guys with the great suggestions. :hatsoff:

That has got to be the nicest workbench top I've ever seen! My dining room table has more scratches than your bench!

You're right there Kurt!

My portable benchtop is a piece of an old table which was left in my house when I moved in. When I was in the furnituremaking business my bench top looked like the surface of the moon. Now I make due with whatever I have on hand!

Thanks for Noticing!LOL :rotf:

Nice looking modification. Is your work bench top a solid core door? I've got a couple and I thought about cutting one down for a bench top.

As you can see from the above post, my bench is a piece of an old oak table top. A solid core door should also do just fine as long as its not "foam core". I've seen a lot of doors made into bench tops, desk tops, etc...... and with plenty of space!

Thanks for all the kind words folks.
