    Straight vs swamp?

A straight barrel would work fine with a Bedford style rifle, a barrel with a very slight swamp would be better. Seems Rice barrel company had one like that. Robin

Training techniques to improve offhand shooting.

I used to practice in my basement all winter using a pellet rifle. Even amazed me at how much it improved my shooting, so I did it with a pellet pistol and the improvement was even more impressive. Robin

    Light hunting rifle, straight stock?

Early English sporting rifle, German Jaeger rifle. Both short barreled, both have a butt plate square to the line of the bore, both have a fairly wide butt plate to help disperse felt recoil, both are relatively light and sling swivels don't look out of place, if carrying a heavy (relative term)...

Walnut dye/ syrup and curly maple.

Do you mean dye made from walnut hulls or a premade alchohol stock stain like Laurel Mountain? The all natural stain will fade to a pinkish brown after exposier to the sun so you really have to experiment and plan ahead. The alcohol based stain does fade a bit but is pretty much color fast. I...

    Maintaining stock with carving ?

I alternate between using Johnson's, I think its bowling alley wax and the aerosol Lemon Pledge, neither one of them turns white.. I always use a tooth brush when applying the Johnson's to keep it from building up in the incise carving. The Pledge cleans out any build up and leaves a nice glow...
