    USB Scope pics of Breeches

Here is a Thompson Center. Note the depth is more shallow and the flash hole comes almost into the rear. Cleaned (Hmm, if it was not in my car for a range trip this afternoon, I would take another swipe at it)

    USB Scope pics of Breeches

got it from amazon. Look at the length and the diameter. This one is just shy of 30 cal. It has LED lights built into it with a brightness control

    USB Scope pics of Breeches

Took some USB scope pics of some breeches before and after final cleaning of the breech. You can see the differences also in the styles of breeches. Final cleaning included a thin patch wrapped around a 22 Brush. First Up, CVA Hawken Breech. Before: After Cleaning.

    Sighting a Lyman GPR

I don't see how you would want to modify the front sights before you work up a load. If It were my gun (and I have a Lyman GPR in Percussion), I'd start all the way down and see where it plants. If you are shooting high with it all the way down, then I'd change it.

    Percussion lock problem

I recently adjusted my Lyman and CVA trigger to be similar to my Thompson Center which had a nice crisp trigger. Guy at a Sunday ML shoot suggested I do it. The procedure I followed was one I read on the interwebs: (Remove trigger guard) 1) With Hammer DOWN, Set trigger 2) Turn front screw...

    TC Hawken Nipple removal

Yes, I think this is the most correct answer. This is my 4th side lock and the others were not this way.

    Percussion lock problem

My only similar experience was the screw that holds the lock on was so tight, it went through and was contacting the hammer. I loosened it and it worked fine. Then took it out and ground down about 1/16" and it was fine.

    TC Hawken Nipple removal

OK, This is my 4th sidelock. If I had this to begin with I may not have purchased my other 3 :) With the hammer all the way at full cock, the nipple wrench can not go straight down onto the nipple. The hammer gets in the way. I purchased this from a guy locally who got it from his Uncle who...

Percussion .50 cal Muzzleloader under $200?

Deals are out there. I just picked up a $200 TC Hawken in nearly MINT condition. I already have a CVA Hawken in the same caliber but This one has the brass hardware and the engraving in the lock so I could not pass it up.

    Bent sprue slicer on mold

Screw came out very easily for me this morning when I removed the plate. BTW, it is reverse threaded if you did not know this :) I'll see if I can bend it back without warping. If not, order a new one and try over again. I think the key to bending is to get the right point for the bend. Ive...

    Bent sprue slicer on mold

OK, New caster here. First mold is a .535 round ball. Lee Mold. Ran my first 60 this morning before work. But at about 50, the sprue had a bunch of flash on it, The slicer is bent I guess from holding it wrong while hitting with dowel. I ran the last 10 from must the bottom one. How can I bend...

    cleaning?

Does anyone use a brush in their cleaning process? Bronze or a Nylon brush? BTW, who sells 50/54 cal nylon brushes or does it matter? When doing the water pump method, I just feel like I have to do too many cycles of water to get it clean. Not sure I'm getting enough contact with the patch to...

Stuck jag in CVA mountain rifle

Next time I have to use the grease gun, I'm going to load it with $1 store hand cream as originally suggested in my stuck ball situation.

Stuck jag in CVA mountain rifle

GREASE GUN, if you have one already. The grease fitting was cheap. and If its CVA my guess is its a 6x1mm thread? My grease gun stuck ball story: http://www.muzzleloadingforum.com/fusionbb/showtopic.php?tid/287423/post/1378453/hl//fromsearch/1/#1378453

    swabbing between shots

I don't usually swab with the load I use, but when I do, I use a US GI oil bottle I got at a gun show. http://shop.thetacticalmedic.com/1-2oz-Military-Oil-Bottle-BOTTLE-1-2.htm I find it easy to pour the right amount of moose milk onto a cleaning patch. Too much and I may have a misfire or...

    cleaning?

One of my issues with the waterless method is cleaning a Patent breech. I just feel it leaves crud in the bottom where I can't get to it with a patch. I have been using the waterless method for past week or so but i'm shooting the ML I'm cleaning 2-3 days a week. Hot vs. Cold water : I thought...

    Smoke Rings

hmm, if shot in a rifled barrel comes out in a ring, why not smoke? I wonder if the right amount of powder would do it shooting blanks in a rifled barrel? Maybe a blank with a wad?

    Tips for Offhand shooting

thx for all the suggestions so far. I have a hefty Lyman Great Plains in .54. About 200 rounds through it after building it up this spring. I'm 48, 5'7" and 170lbs. I play Ice hockey, but my arms are not bulked up by any means. This ML is heavy to hold. I have a used CVA hawken that I think is...

    Patched Ball accuracy @ 100yds

My front bag is directly under the rear wedge pin when I shoot the Lyman GPR. I thought I read that you need the position to be consistant (maybe it was for center fire) don't know if that holds true for ML. For the load development or shooting the gong at 100 yards, I have my free non-trigger...

    Tips for Offhand shooting

I'm looking for some tips for offhand muzzleloader shooting. I've spent some time with centerfire and 22 offhand shooting at 25 yards, but not 50 yards like I want to do with the muzzleloader. And not any real training. The Lyman peep sight gives me a great sight picture, but my challenge is...
