    Oil for Ruger old army

Got the grunge out last weekend, and it does work smoother. Seems to be and oil well`s worth of brown still coming out of that little plunger on the hammer, but i`ll check that out again next time i clean it, which will probably be Saturday or Sunday.

What Muzzleloading Stuff Did You Do Today?

cleaned two rifles form yesterdays trip to the range. If the range is not busy, they allow reactive targets like pop cans, clay pigeons and the small exploding discs as long as you clean up after yourselves. Took some cap and ball revolvers, a couple rifles, and my shooting buddy who is newly...

    Cleaning revolvers

the colts and repro colts i dont mind- its mostly the old army with it`s myriad of springs and other tiny parts. It needed a good cleaning after i got it, probably hadn`t been done in 10 years Or more. As i cleaned, i found more parts to remove, clean inspect and put back together. Some of the...

    Cleaning revolvers

To me, cleaning after shooting is part of the experience. However, i have been detail stripping and cleaning my revolvers after every outing, and some, especially the old army, take forever to clean and reassemble. do you guys do this or only do a detail strip and cleaning every so often?

    Ruger Old Army nipple removal

ground down a 3/16 socket so the surface was flat and sharp. Nipples didn`t stand a chance, didn`t need heat or lapping compound or anything

    Oil for Ruger old army

I thought so. Grease will be coming out this weekend. Anyone know where i can get wood handgrips for one of these? Has the bulky rubber one, which is ok if you have giant hands like the guy i got it from

    Oil for Ruger old army

Finally got back to my Ruger. Got it stripped down and found it was full of grease. Is this the recommended lube and what type would be best? Or do i need to clean this black and brown crud out and stick with oil?

    ASM 1851 navy hitting high

makes sense with where the balls impact the target. maybe i`ll make a man sized target and see how it works on that.

    ASM 1851 navy hitting high

took above mentioned handgun out to the range. 25 gr of 3F with a RB. at 10-15 yards it was hitting 6 inches high. at 25 yds around 10-12 inches high. at 50- it was at least 20 inches over the aiming point. had to aim at the ground in front of the target to even register on my smallish 24x24...

    Gun show 1860 Army

Well, i did buy it for a shooter grade antique, it came thru customs from the US by a reputable importer, and sold to me by a reputable dealer. It was refurbed before it was imported. Put approximately 100 ball thru it at my fathers “funeral games”- many of my relations fired it quite...

    Gun show 1860 Army

What a lot to take in- if it is not original- i paid too much. Education is expensive. if its a refurbed original and falls into the category of antique in Canada- i paid a decent price- shootable antiques are sought after due to no licensing requirements in Canada, where hand guns are severely...

    Gun show 1860 Army

Note - .457 balls are a hair too small- they do not shave any discernible amount of lead when seating the ball, some lead is displaced, however.

    Gun show 1860 Army

Bought this Saturday at a local gun show. Not sure what i have here. Barrel has what I believe is a gain twist- its straight leaving the forcing cone then starts to twist. I have never seen this type of rifling before. Was touted as an original. Has manufacture date of 1868 based on the serial...

    Ruger Old Army nipple removal

just picked up an old army, can get all but 1 nipple out. can the cylinders be heated to assist this without damaging or comprimising the steel? wont be red hot but hot enough that you won`t really want to touch it. going to soak it in eds read first, and as the hex head is worn, will use a dab...

    Seized nipple, any removal tricks?

I`ve removed two nipples- one from a Pattern 1839 enfield and one from an original 1863 remington Zouave. Soaked in ed`s red for a month, touch of heat from a propane torch, quick dunk in cold water and they both came out like i put them in yesterday. A re-heat and slow cool incase there was any...
