    GPR restock question

Amen to that, I just finished a re-build that took a better part of a year. It wasn't a fine piece to start with and it isn't now either, it's just different. I could have gotten better parts but the ones I used had value for me and me alone. I say go for it and don't look back.

    Lewis and Clark Undaunted Coarage

What's wrong with that? If the flint was in the gun all the time it would be dangerous .....:rotf: :rotf: :rotf: :rotf: Seriously though I do like most of Ambrose's stuff. Like it was said earlier just don't take verbatum what he says.

    Kentucky Rifle build

With your lock out see how much room is in between the top of the trigger and the bar that the trigger engages. I have a rifle that I soldered a piece of metal on top of the trigger, with a little bit of filing to fit it took out the sloppyness and improved the pull.

Want to convert to a Flinlock

Thank you, but trust me I have nothing in commom with the great tactician other than my ancestors are of German descent. I picked the name cause I live in the middle of the desert and like to wander around in it.

    Holding your pistol

I like the classic dueling stance... standing sideways arm fully extended other arm cocked and hand on the hip with a loud "You sir are a cad" Of course the broad side of the barn is typically safe in this exercise. That's also probably why I mind my manners in polite company. If...

Want to convert to a Flinlock

They don't have a website but here's their phone # 765-525-6181. They're good folks to deal with and will do anything and everything they can to help.

Want to convert to a Flinlock

Heck, I'd still be proud of it, far nicer than mine!

    How close for gongs?

The only ricochette I ever had was I when I was using a real estate "A" frame sign that was made of plastic. I had brought a "Philly" Deringer and had no idea how much powder to put in it. I set my measure for as small as it would go and fired. The ball bounced back and landed at my feet. I...

Want to convert to a Flinlock

At the the time I got it from CVA, but it was before they went to the "dark side." Deer Creek would probably have one that's gonna fit without having to do any altering.

Want to convert to a Flinlock

Yep, I bought a cva flintlock lock and did er up. The biggest problem I had was getting the drum out. In fact, I couldn't get it out and ended up cutting and filing it flush and tapping it for a touch hole liner. It works great as far as reliability, when it doesn't go off it's usually my...

    Beeswax Waterproofing...again

Actually I have more of a question. I am making a couple of bags that I want to waterproof with beeswax. A couple of years ago I used some toilet wax rings mixed with parafin to make some candles because I heard that the rings were beeswax. Does anyone know if they actually are? The candles...

    #%^&ing Lyman

I broke my first rod about two weeks ago...it was an original factory Lyman GPR rod. Luckily my buddy was kind enough to let me use his rod so I could keep shooting. It took about twenty minutes to have a second one made up and stained when I got home.

    Coned pistol?

I've got a few old CVA pistols that have marginal accuracy, I was thinking about coning them at least they would be easier to load and I'm thinking it might even help with the accuracy.

How do you clean flints between shots?

Between shots my thumb or the tail of my shirt (My hunters shirt is perma stained along the bottom edge from this.) When I get home I just drop the flint into my hot water bucket let it sit for a few minutes while I'm cleaning the barrel and then wipe it dry.

    Fresh charge

That's an interesting question. Wild Bill and his palls were smart folks I'm sure but it does sound like a practice that would have been passed down. I think it would depend on where you were located and what you were doing. If you were deep in indian territory firing a shot in your camp...

    .54 Traditions, Good deal?

Not that this is really answering your question but it sounds like you wanted another ML instead of the .22. I'd say you got what you wanted and therefore probably a good deal.... $120 sounds like a good price for a .54 in decent to good shape.

    Few pics from NMLRA@ Phoenix

I agree it is dissapointing, everbody I know would love to have something bigger but I guess this is the best we can support (even despite my yearly contributions  ). It is the biggest event in the state that I'm aware of with the Bill Williams rondy as a distant second . The state club...

    Few pics from NMLRA@ Phoenix

Just an update, I was there yesterday (Sat) and the morning was hoppin with both "skinners" and visitors. Traders row is bigger this year than last, it seems to ebb and flow that way. I always get worried about it when it's small, it's the best thing going around here for a buyin the...

    Lyman plains-VS-Traditions trapper

I would suggest to try and find a local place that you could handle both. I have the trapper and it is a great pistol but it is a little unwieldy when using the double triggers. The lyman looks a little easier to handle and hold. Just my 2 cents

    Nosecap?

OK, I went with the home made brass cap with a squared end. It turned out pretty good. I still have to do some final finishing but I think it is going to work out good for the rifle I'm trying to build. Hopefully I can touch up and hide my other errors as well  Thanks for everyones...
