As far as my experience with the plumber / fitter feud, it was explained to me thusly, "for a plumber to become a fitter one needs only to pass a test, for a fitter to become a plumber one must serve an apprenticeship" I invested a bit over thirty years in the industry. Many of the later...

    Finish?

Not sure to be honest, bought it quite a few years ago while researching the forums and it was mentioned by one of the better builders as the "goto" for period stains and finishes and their proper application, at that time I found a copy using an interweb search. Interesting that the interweb...

Hardening and Tempering 4140 Steel from Rifle Shoppe

Rude at best, Many of us are hobbyist types and love a good challenge, I gleaned the above information many years ago and have used it many times with great success, I learned to build flintlocks and the associated processes because I could not afford to pay for the quality of muzzle loaders...

Unfinished WM Large 44" Flintlock - help identify?

If I didn't know any better while looking at the pictures, #4 in particular, I'd say that stock is broke through the beaver tail carving, could be an illusion though.

    Finish?

I found this to be the the absolute best information concerning the what, how, and why, and the current ways for us to reproduce today what they did yesteryear. And yes Dave Person is spot on in his information, the rest is just modern styles, techniques, and materials producing a modern result.

    Is this the real deal?

Love reading some of this stuff, 1st, 2nd, and 3rd generation Colt revolvers are just that, first, second, and third generation Colt's, they are not reproductions or replicas. It is the collector snob class that has tried to push this ignorant narrative trying to protect their first generation...
