    TVM Woes! :(

Been around these forums for a spell and can honestly say that the issues described with the QC of the mentioned builder has all been discussed before, there are posts going back years describing offset ramrod holes (not centered on the barrel) hurried inlets, non existent architecture, and on...

    Frizzen Opinions

Either way would work, if adding a sole I'd stay away from JB Weld and stick with riveting and or solder, if a machine shop is not available to you or the work is beyond what you're wanting to deal with you could locate a forum member with the tooling that might be able to help.

This from a very accomplished builder with many years experience in the trenches building exceptionally fine muzzle loaders, been following your work since I got involved in 2006.

    Pecatonica Hawken Kit

Invest in a book, either of these is a good book, Recreating the American Longrifle or Gunsmith of Grenville County. Purchasing a book will allow you to familiarize yourself with the required steps and tooling to assemble a Pecatonica, or anybody else's kit, they are a steep learning curve...

    Homegrown Relief Carving

Both of the books Susanne put out are in my possession, purchased new, Don Eads and Dale Johnson both put out reference material later republished by Susanne, looking through them though I would not consider them as traceable, they are a great place to start from. Your best bet is to get...

    Looking for ML kit builder

My mentor started building in the late fifties, his approach to building guns for folks was to make them pay for two sets of parts, one for them that he built and one for him to build for himself at a later date, it works out well for both parties, as it automatically adjusts for inflation and...

    Pecatonica Lehigh County Re-stock

I don't see the break in the wrist, that's a nice looking piece of stock wood though. As far as the trigger guard and thimbles, the holes could be countersunk on each side and a piece of brass pin stock then soldered into the existing holes and the ends peened flat and then dressed down with a...

    Shot Size

Typically use 7 1/2 or 8 on anything up to and including quail, I find that 6 is a good compromise of pellet count and energy on pheasant and rabbit.

All of my work is completed with an opti-visor with a No.5 lens, a minor inletting gap when viewed with that combination is invisible to the naked eye, and after finish is applied its gone even under magnification. The finest inletting don't mean squat if the butt plate is cockeyed though...

    L & R out of business?

The problem with the rumor mill is that even when you do post solid information the idjits just gloss over it like it's not there and bury it under mounds of disinformation, these are the last kinds of people you want around you and yours when or if things go south as they are the nervous nellie...
