Flashing the Pan Prior to Loading?

I touch off a fouler load consisting of a measure of powder and a wet balled up cleaning patch at the beginning of a trail walk/range session, this ensures consistant bore conditions for each shot there after.

That phone number is off, belongs to Bullfrog ( Jim Malloy ) phone number for Short Stroke ( Ted Hartman ) is 541-788-2122, There are a couple clubs around the area besides Grizzly Mountain Long Rifles, also Cascade Brigade shoots in the same area and a bit south around La Pine is the Ponderosa...

    What Made You Choose Flintlock?

Historic appeal, overall the flint era guns were architechturally more plesant to the eye, also the beauty of an original well carved and engraved flinter is hard to match, and in most scenarios a good flint shooter is equal to or a better shot than a good cap gun guy. Most that truly give...

    Building a workbench

Also very helpful to have a consistent color versus something with a pattern or random wood grain. And as a side note to my post above, I built the benches to the wall with 2x4 frame and 4x4 posts then covered with plywood etc.

    Building a workbench

Built the bench with plywood, covered that with particle board, covered that with counter top laminate (formica), after a bit more than 15 years it has held up well.

    Chisel gouges

Without seeing a larger picture of the area it's hard to say, if you add any glue/epoxy to the surface of uncolored wood it will most likely remain uncolored when finished. My suggestion would be to remove more wood.

    no aqua fortis

What we know is that aqua-fortis when applied and heated has a chemical reaction with the tannins in the wood, this causes the change of color. With the application of a stain, any stain, you are adding pigment to the pours (filling the grain) of the wood to change the color, hence the term...

    tang/peep sight photo request

If done correctly (for my needs) all three sights are lined up, this allows the rear sight to become "crisp", that said it's only useful for load development/target work really unless you drift out the rear sight. I made a sight up and did a write up on it here on the forum but trashed the...

    no aqua fortis

This was a really good thread on Aqua-fortis, many very knowledgeable builders responded and the pictures are still there. I would stay with aqua-fortis/ferric nitrate due to it's far superior wood coloring aspects. Stains of all kinds will really only muddy up the chatoyance of the grain...

    Whitewash?

Never figured that the animals care what color my gear was, that seems to be a people thing. I am most likely not understanding what you mean by whitewash. I am sure others will have a different opinion.

Dunno, don't use it. But when the discussions were going around hot and heavy about it pretty sure the questions you asked were answered, and then some.

    no aqua fortis

Yup, what they said, ferric nitrate crystals mail ordered to your door, I cannot tell the difference between the crystals and aqua fortis. There are many that tout the use of denatured alcohol with ferric nitrate crystals instead of distilled water as a way to help lessen the grain raising...

Who else polishes their brass over the winter?

Nope, not on mine. Every time you polish, the crisp edges get a little bit smoother.
