Looks quite a big flint to me. Have you tried bevel up, but moving the flint forward in the jaws a little. ( put a piece of toothpick behind it) However it may just be bad lock geometry

Yep. It was really in sh*t order. I got a gunsmith to work it over for me and then did some work myself and this is what came out. Not everyone’s thing, but I love it. Thanks for looking

The tack work is actually glass beads, not brass tacks. The gun is old, but is a recent alteration based on two original native guns

Now this could be a Native American owned and used piece, or it could be a modern put together, to look like a native used piece. Looks like a trade gun barrel mounted on a rifle half stock. Looking at the feathers and beadwork, I’d go for a modern put together of original parts

Again, if you get DeWitts book, you will see musketoons, these tended to be/ look more like a blunderbus. Another book that shows some early carbines is ‘of sorts for provincials’

Are we talking musket on or carbine. There were many carbines, but lots were of similar size to muskets. If you want a fairly definitive answer see: Pattern Dates for British Ordinance Small Arms, by DeWitt Bailey . 1997 Thomas Publications Gettysburg

I always use a vent pick when loading

3f is generally used in rifles. 2 f in larger bores and shotguns, 4f or null d as primer, but they will all go bang. I use 2f in pretty much everything, when using Swiss, as it is a bit hotter than most of the others. I’ve tried 1.5f in rifles and haven’t noticed any detrimental effects.
