I don’t find that the lock or cheek piece causes any problems shooting left handed. I’ve been doing it for nearly 50 years, without trouble. As to which gun, I just like the 1776 more.

Neat murphys oil soap

There are many photos of short barrelled trade guns and muskets, but they werent built that way. Cut down for whatever reason. They certainly weren’t called by either of those names

If your barrel is around .610, I would have gone for a .600 ball and a 15 thou patch. That’s just my opinion and worth what I charge for it. Lol

Just rub a little neat murphys on the patch. Turn it over on the muzzle, so it’s murphys side down. set ball on top and ram home. Nothing complicated. If I’m shooting a comp, the patches are all lubed and put in my shooting bag together. . It doesn’t seem to matter if the Murphys soaks right...

It’s amazing how these threads keep coming up and just as amazing how many lubes there are used. Personally, I use neat Murphys oil soap. Good accuracy and very little fouling

I don’t worry about corrosion or oxidisation. Doesn’t seem to affect accuracy much. I’ve been casting and shooting lead ball now for 49 years. I just keep them in plastic or glass jars. As long as you don’t keep eating them you’ll be fine!
