    1842 Belgian Musket

I saw a thread on another site, where one of the replies suggested that 1842 Belgian muskets had a left hand threaded breech plug. I’ve asked him to point me in the direction of his information, because I’ve not heard of that and never seen one. Anyone confirm or disprove this?

    Cast lead ball weight tolerance.

Throw the really light ones, back in the pot, then get out there and shoot the rest!

    Oiling?

I just leave mine wet. I find it just browns the inside of the barrel, the same as the outside😉

CLOSED I need a .526 Round Ball Mold

With all this advice and chatter, why not just order one from Chris Tanner, in the UK, as one of the other replies suggested. You’re looking everywhere and not finding one and Chris Tanner will make what you want. It’s a no brainer to me

.50 cal smooth rifle ball dia?

Depends if you’re going to bare ball it or patch it. If patching, I would start with 0.49 and try patches from about 10 thou up.

Ox Yoke 1000 lube+ who uses it?

A lot of people don’t like it. My wife uses it in a little 40 cal smoothrifle and it does all that is necessary to hit centre. Just one opinion.

    Homemade wads for rifles.

I’m going to try some in my Mississippi original, just to see if accuracy improves at all. If it does, I might try in in one of my flinters

    Homemade wads for rifles.

Hi Andy. I think some people try a wad under the patched ball, as it apparently makes a good gas seal and helps with patch burning etc. Simon

    Not French?

I believe you’ve got it there. Thank you. One of the conversions from flint, has the same lockplate

    Not French?

They are percussion. This is a flint with a strange shaped lockplate

    Silly question

I have a five piece alloy rod which will do up to about 50”+, but I got in England many years ago, so I don’t know if they are still available anywhere

What Dry Lube When You are Allergic to Ballistol

You’ll get as many recipes as shooters. Lol. I just use a dab of Murphys oil soap (neat) on the patch and rub in. Works well and keeps fouling soft. I once shot 4 hrs (about 20 shots per hr) without wiping and no fall off in accuracy. I’ve tried many lubes, but won’t bother trying any others.

    Personal Best.

I do know the restrictions and costs, as I live in UK. I’ve been shooting muzzleloaders for over 45 years. The rules are a pain in the butt, but not really that bad. Anyway, I have no problem with Certus using 777, just think that real black should be used in originals, but even that, is only my...

    Personal Best.

Hi Brian. As a traditionalist, I use black powder for all my shooting, but each to his own. If you intend to shoot your originals though, I feel it would insult their history to use a book sub, but that’s just me. Stay safe and shoot well. Simon
