    Austin & Halleck

Hatfield went broke and Pedersoli got the design which became their frontier rifle and the Cabelas Blue Ridge Rifle. Austin and Halleck was started by the same people involved in Hatfield so I was told. They made a regular model and deluxe model with fancy wood and finish like my rifle. They...

    Austin & Halleck

I have a flintlock with the deluxe stock marked Utah. It is a great gun and I will not let it go. I have had to file or adjust the sights on nearly every rifle I have ever had. Shoulders like a Hatfield if you ever held one. :idunno:

    turkey, with a rifle

Here in West Texas I grew up in wide open country and we all hunted turkey with rifles. I was in my twenties before I even heard of calling turkeys and then it took a while to learn. When I became a black powder shooter I just started using my small game calibers for turkey. I do try to shoot...

    Knapping your Rifle's Flint

Get a 1/2 - 3/4 inch diameter piece of copper tubing about 6 inches long. Flatten one end about one inch deep in a vice to be used to shear the flint off evenly. Put a copper cap on the other end to be used as a knapping hammer. They work great. ET

I don't have pictures but have taken several does and feral hogs with my Vincent .40 I try to keep my shots inside about 60 yards. My load is 55 grains of 3F and they sometimes run a ways but I have not lost one yet. Of course our whitetails here in Central Texas weigh less than 100 pounds...

Information wanted on Half Stock Rifle

Can any of you tell me anything about this mint condition rifle I just picked up? It has none of the usual black powder warnings etc. on the barrel. It is stamped A. Uberti & C. Gardone V. T. Italy. It is a half stock .50 caliber plains rifle of high quality with bright luster blue job and...

    The Vincent Rifle

Here is mine, it's over 25 years old and kind of plain but it has taken its share of deer and small game. I shoot 40 grains 3F most of the time and 55 grains if I plan on deer or hog. It is not for sale. ET

    Good looking or not?

If you pick up a rifle that is made to fit you personally it will make all the difference in the world how you shoot. If you close your eyes and settle into a rifle so that when you open your eyes the sights are automatically lined up right where they are supposed to be it makes all the...

    Flintlock Dilemmas and Wants

I have been looking for a small caliber flintlock for some time now and have run across a few deals but none were really just what I want. I really want a .36 but would settle for a .32 or .40. I want around a 36 inch barrel or just a little shorter. I would like something that looks like a...

    Lock Identification Help?

I have a custom Vincent rifle made over 25 years ago. The ohio style lock has no marks except for a small circle with a D inside the circle stamped on the inside of the plate. Is it a Davis or something else. The lock that Davis makes of that style right now has a different screw arangement...
