    Changing pitch of cast buttplate

You don't place the butt against the chest. It should go against your arm by your armpit, aiming cross-body. Inlet the wood more and don't risk cracking or breaking the casting.

    .

Some might take this as being a bit mouthy. I certainly read snark. Just because Capt Kirk used wood for a cannon doesn't make it a good idea.

A Simple Bag for the Important Stuff

We seem to all have a fondness for shooting bags. I have made a few, but this one is special. It's not anywhere near historically correct, but I don't care. It was made by a friend at the first gun club I belonged to. When I got started in the hobby, he helped me be sure I was doing things...

    Thoughts on wet weather

I could have sworn I read "wet leather..."

    Traditions, Kentucky rifle

Yoh are correct. Since the set trigger "flicks" the sear to release it, the fly is needed to keep the sear from catching the half cock notch. The lock will need to be changed.

A double set trigger will likely require changing the trigger guard as well.

    New Member-Maine island

Not many places better than a Maine island. I'm on the mainland, but in smelling distance of Casco Bay.

Short Starter using antique door knob

Yes, tapped threads for the shaft. The knob itself is hollow, so the weight is minimal.

WANTED Short Land Pattern Brown Bess

I reshaped the brass side plate to look more like a Long Land Pattern type. I thinned and shaped the area around the tang. I reduced the width at the lock, as the lock was set too deep. The swell had been horribly done (I believe this was a kit gun) so I reshaped it. It's more like something a...

    Keeping it together.

I have four .50 cal rifles. I don't want a bunch of different calibers. Been there, done that, got the tee shirt when I was into unmentionable milsurps and the different ammo and reloading dies started getting crazy.

Short Starter using antique door knob

This knob had an integral stem that was all part of the bottom, which itself held in place by the base of the knob being folded over. Someone had cut the stem off almost flush, so I ground the nub smooth, then drilled and tapped for the extension. The extension's threads have a slight shoulder...

Short Starter using antique door knob

Short starter I made using a smaller antique brass door knob I got for $5 and a Traditions ramrod extension/bullet starter I've had lying around.

    Scheels LIMITS Caps?!?

There's a shop out this way that will clean out Walmart and resell them for 4x the amount. I don't blame a shop for limiting inventory in hunting season.
