PA Game Commission to Ruin Flintlock Season?

Hope they don’t mess with it also. It wasn’t implemented as a management season and it certainly is a minimal harvest overall. However, with our hunting population crashing hard, I expect the PGC to widen seasons and harvest numbers to compensate. It is really fun to wander the woods with a...

    My WoodsRunner mystery metal

Yep. Some machine work reside leftover in a product that requires the end user to finish and assemble isn’t an issue whatsoever. Some folks just are very particular I guess.

    Flinter made another kill

I would too. Never came close. I don’t hunt turkeys much anymore. And bears are around sporadically. Mainly focus on deer and filling the freezer. One more mature doe do me for the year.

    This'll make you feel old!

I’ve been following him for quite a while. Long before he was on alone. Actually Whne he was making videos for backcountry outfitters or something like that. I knew whne he was selected for Alone that he would win. He’s highly intelligent, and an incredible outdoorsman. .

    Flinter made another kill

Really nice!! Congrats. I’ll be out after Christmas trying to fill a doe tag. Filled my buck tag out in 2C back in archery.

    Yet another patch cutting method

I use a hole saw in a drill press. I grind off the teeth on a bench grinder. Then after that’s nice and squared up I sharpen the circumference on the grinder. It’s a circular spinning blade and I can cut 20-30 perfectly round patches at a time. Lube up and go!

    Honest opinions on Kibler rifles

I have a Colonial in .50 that I put together two years ago. It’s gorgeous. The lock is fast. Unbelievably fast and I killed my first flintlock deer with it last winter. The rifle is accurate, very high quality on everything. Kiblers customer service is impeccable. The rifle came with a frizzen...

    Finally Connected with a Flintlock!!!

I don’t eat beef. Venison is my only source of red meat so I try to take a couple does each year between archery and the gun seasons. Don’t get me wrong. I do like a nice thick ribeye but I sous vide backstrap and sear, add in a blueberry reduction and it’s unreal good.

    Finally Connected with a Flintlock!!!

Thanks again everyone! She was big. Couple years old I figure. I’ve been hunting the PA flintlock season for quite a while and have missed four or five until this one. Inexperience and nerves got the best of me. I started with w a TC Firestorm I have since given to my nephew. And have been...

    Finally Connected with a Flintlock!!!

Used my Kibler Colonial .50 I finished last fall. Gorgeous rifle and an heirloom piece for certain. A .490 ball and patch over 75gn of powder did a number on her! Truthfully I was surprised at how much damage a round ball could do. Her lungs and heart were obliterated. If I didn’t know better...

    Kibler Colonial is Finished

Was able to to finish the rifle up for the weekend. It came out far better than I had expected. Was much easier than I expected and best of all it is beautiful. Very elegant yet simple. I draw filed and finished the barrel with oxpho blue and rubbed it back until a gray color. I polished up...

    How’s This Look?

All the metalwork and file work is finished. All that remains is to finish the stock and clean up the barrel with some draw filing and I should have a finished rifle this time next week. The stock is down to 220gr now. I’m gonna do some grain raising and slick it off with 0000 steel wool then...

    How’s This Look?

Like I was saying earlier, there are folks who spend ten grand to buy a brand new Gibson Les Paul that looks like it’s 65 years old.

Thanks very much. I’m just trying to mimic what I see in my imagination.

    How’s This Look?

I like how it accentuated the decor on the metal and I dislike bright shiny brass. If you really want to talk about the perceived beauty in artificial aging, look up guitar relicing. People literally take a $7-8k electric guitar brand new and have it banged up, worn, nicked, chipped, rusted...

    How’s This Look?

Thanks. I like it and it’s what I see in my mind’s eye. The high polish just doesn’t look right to me and I don’t want to things to get rounded over with a polishing process or a buffer. I’ll hopefully finish up the gun in the next week or so. I just take an hour or two every evening.

    How’s This Look?

I don’t want to take any type of machinery to it. I’ll try burlap. Have some laying around somewhere.

It’s a rabbit hole for certain. I have thought a lot about how far I wanna take it.
