    Fire resistant wadding

Oops, meant round ball not prb.

Changed my mind. Want to shoot wads instead of patches.

Ah, I see. Hmm. I guess I could just load the powder and a wad then load what ever lead I needed as I needed it but that won't really work while hunting deer as it will spook before I manage that. Paper cartridges would be OK but often times its fairly dry and hot out early season here...

    Fire resistant wadding

So what type of wadding do you use for prb and shot in the field during hot and dry months? September is the start of hunting season up here and where I live it can be quite hot and dry still. October is less of a concern as its usually damp until the snow flies in November. I have read here...

Changed my mind. Want to shoot wads instead of patches.

So what size mold would I choose if I decided to shoot rb with wads instead of prb? Bore measures .686 with calipers at the muzzle of my Japanese charleville. I realized the versatility of being able to take small game and large game during the same hunt out weighs the accuracy achievable from...

Bayonet & front sling swivel for Japanese charleville

Not that I need a bayonet as I don't reenact or anything but thought it might be neat to have. My sling swivel is kinda bent out of shape tho and would like to know where I could source one that would fit. Thanks all.

    Japanese Charleville molds

Hmm. Maybe I will have to give them a call. Looked at their website before, several times but didn't find much in the way of care and feeding of firelocks. Just looked again, clicked on the misc link and a bunch of stuff popped up that I will have to look thru tomorrow. Thanks for getting me to...

    Japanese Charleville molds

Will definitely report back once I gather what I need to feed and maintain this charleville. May take a while tho as it all has to snake its way thru customs once I order everything unfortunately.

    Japanese Charleville molds

Well for one I would like to make my own and two I live in Canada. Shipping anything from the states has become prohibitively expensive. No retailers up here for black powder stuff, not enough demand. The two local stores I have access to that sell firearms stuff (local retailer and one big box)...

    Japanese Charleville molds

Ok sounds good. Your probably right, someone probably has a fix for us on here, hopefully someone will chime in or I will start a new topic at some point, once I get to shoot it. The only reason I was concerned about accuracy was that the front sight is on the front band.

    Japanese Charleville molds

That sounds good. Thanks for the info. Does your musket also have a loose fitting front band? If so do you find it problematic for accuracy? Have you tryed shimming it some how? Mines fits a little loose but it looks like it always goes back into the same position due to spring pressure on it so...

    Japanese Charleville molds

Lyman makes that mold correct? How many shots do you get before you have to wipe the barrel? What does your ticking measure out to? Thanks in advance...

    Japanese Charleville molds

Just some pics. I don't think it's an el cheapo made in Spain but you fellas are a better judge of that then I.

    Hello from BC, Canada

Hi, just made my first post after six years of lurking and realized I forgot to introduce myself. Finally bought my first muzzleloader, a Japanese Charleville. Look forward to asking many more questions in my effort to get this shooting and hopefully others in my future! Fantastic resource you...

    Japanese Charleville molds

Hi, long time lurker. Have perused these forums for probably 5 years or so. Lots of great info here and a huge resource. Just bought what I believe is a Japanese made Charleville. Markings were removed but stock is a two piece and it looks like someone made a poor attempt at trying to rethread...
