    Front Sight Installation

I am using Sourdough Patridge front sights on my target rifles. I polish the silver insert. I can see it better than a straight blade. As I have aged, 73, I have changed sights many times. Cataracts, removal, ect. I have two 40 cal. Hoyt barrels set up for offhand matches. One has peep sights...

    Dilemma on sights

I am 73 and had cataract surgery about 5 years ago. Big improvement. I have been shooting at Friendship spring and fall for 13 years. The primitive matches do not allow peep sights. The offhand rifle line has many matches for any metallic sight, which include peep sights. Some matches are...

    Tang mounted Peep Sights

Thanks to everyone who responded to my question. I am working on bedding the .40 cal. and a .36 cal. green Mt. barrel in a similar stock. Both rifles have Lyman 57 sights with adjustable target nobs. Lyman 17 globe sight on the front. I hope bedding eliminates the small shift in point of impact...

    Tang mounted Peep Sights

The fit is a little loose. I have been using canvas to shim between the barrel and the stock. I plan to bed the barrel to make the fit the same each time I put the barrel back in after removal for cleaning. I have a match next Sunday so I can see if bedding helps.

    Tang mounted Peep Sights

I have a 32 inch .40 cal. drop in rice barrel on an Investarms stock. I have tang mounted peep sights. The hook breech fits the tang snugly. The stock could fit better. I shoot 50 yard bench matches with it. It will shoot as many 10's as 9's. For cleaning I remove the barrel. I am thinking that...

    "Primitive" shooting at NMLRA

Hello Smo. I was at the June shoot at Friendship for nine days. I shot in 23 matches, mostly on the offhand range. I shot the forum woodswalk and pistol matches on the primitive range. All the people that run the primitive range have always been very helpful to me. They work hard to make it safe...

    inexpensive spotting scope recommedations

I bought a cheap scope from Harbor Freight. Tried it. I took it back the next day. It just was not clear. I have a Bushnell scope and binoculars that I can see .40 call holes in the black at 100 yards. Doubles can be hard to see.

Storing black powder in a shed

I do not store any powder in my house. My powder is stored in my small barn, 16 x 24, in a wooden crate on a shelf up off the floor. I have room to do my cleaning and a gun safe for rifle and pistol storage. Powder is not in the gun safe. No heat except when I am cleaning/working then I have...

    Friendship woods walk question

Cutting the cards is the closest, 10 to 15 yards. The other targets are 15 to 75 yards. This forum has a group that meets at Noon the first Sunday and shoots together.

    Friendship woods walk question

I shoot the woods walk June and September. It is usually 18 or 19 shots. I always carry enough for 30+ shots. I shoot match 711 which is flint or percussion. Does not require period dress. The shoot program will list all the woods walk matches. Always some challenging targets. They improve it...

    To go left-handed or not

He is from Ga. He is an inspiration to anyone who is having eye problems to keep trying. I had cataracts in my right eye so I tried to shoot left handed. It felt awkward. I finally had cataracts removed from both eyes. Much better but not perfect. A wider blade on the front sight helped me for...

    To go left-handed or not

I know a shooter at Friendship that built sights that were offset so he could shoot right handed and sight with his left eye. He shoots very well with that set up.

Hello from Miami county, Ohio. I have a similar rifle. The 11 caps are correct for your rifle. You can get them at Old English Gun Shop in our area. They also have T7 and Pyrodex powder. Your rifle looks pretty clean. Have fun.
