    Presto! Now shes a flintlock!

Nice rifle. I would love to find a percussion barrel and lock that would let me do that with my Lyman GPR. Somehow, I don’t believe that a barrel and lock would just drop in and fit…. Her name is “Patience” for a reason. Lol!😆

    Flint Leather, Side Fit

A bit of a necro-thread here, but I’ve been away and I’m catching up. Since I have a Lyman GPR lock with less than optimal geometry I use the leather wrap and bevel direction to optimize the strike as best I can. I will soak the leather in alcohol and repeatedly snug up the jaws over a day or...

October 30 is National Candy Corn Day!

Targets printed, now to make time to go to the range.

Storing your powder and pouring it

Wiscoaster, I was gonna mention “over thinking it” until you did…. 8 have used a random red solo cup from the trash barrel and some duct tape to make a funnel one time at the range when I forgot one at home. It’s still in the BP range box…

    How do you hold?

I’m with ya out to 100 yards with the rock-lock….. much beyond that I using glass - in this case I’ll kick back and look thru the binoculars - mainly because the rifle isn’t up to my accuracy standards for a shot on game much over 100yds. I can use that same hold well beyond 100 but would...

    Whom Used a Frizzen Stall?

I use one. I'm not hung up on the HC\PC thing, and see it as a low impact safety measure.

    Charcoal

Anyone know where mullberry ranks on the “desirable wood list”? I prune a bunch off every year and would just as soon try to make charcoal out of it as throw it on a brush pile to rot. Second question - when is the best time of year to trim? Winter, spring, fall?

What Part Of Clean It Now Don't You Understand?

Unless you plan on buying it back, his gun and his problem (until he asks for help de-rusting the bore) At isually the range I run a patch wrapped around a brush with windex between shots. Before I leave it will get the windex patch followed by an alcohol swab/flush. Then swabbed out with MAP...

Random thoughts on the Lyman/ Investarm patent breach

So i’ve been following the touch hole/self priming thread and it got me wondering about the actual dimensions of the Lyman GPR patent breech. I do use a brush to scrub it out, but have often wondered about making a scraper to fit. Other thoughts include opening the patent breech diameter, or...

Frizzen wear - smooth it or replace it

Replaced flint with a new one and took it outside to test. This is a slow mo video capture of the sparks in the pan (no primer-just sparks) A bit out of focus but looks pretty dang good to me. What do you all think.

    Powder and mice?

I am going nuts trying to figure out what BP forum i posted my pics of the chewed BP bottles. The only place I can think of that I cannot check is the defunct 1858 Remington forum. I will have to find my pics and post them here. Oh, and we now have 5 cats and one is a Maincoon. He is a true...

    Powder and mice?

I think i posted about this a few years ago. Critters prints were all over the dust on the caps and bottles. But they only chewed the BP and not the smokeless. I keep the BP in a steel ammo can with the lid on loose. The Hinges and latch not connected but it is in place to keep critters n...

    Hunting with glasses

Playing hockey back in the 70’s and 80’s i wore rec-specs…. Basically glasses with an elastic head band and no temples. No contacts for astigmatism back then. Coach told me to put a drop of dish soap on each lense, rub it into a paste and leave it dry. Then buff it off with a soft towel. I...

    Rework a cheap foreign horn

Already has octagon tip shape. Was thinking about going round and adding the extension. Sad to say, but it is my only horn. 🙄. Fubar means I buy a new one - either raw as a project or already finished. Not that I don’t want another project, but it is christmas and funds are thin.

    Rework a cheap foreign horn

So when I first got into rock locks I bought a cheapo imported horn on sale at Gander mountain. I was wondering if anyone has manages to make an ugly silk purse from one of these sows ears? Can’t help thinking about pulling/replacing the base plug, sanding the spout down and making a wooden...

Anyone else have sore raw fingertips

Dont have a stitch wheel, always wanted one. I draw the pattern in pencil and use a leather hole punch with rotating head using the smallest punch to layout the stitch on the thicker stuff. The bag I was messing with is an abomination that stitched together from pieces of a too large thrift...

Anyone else have sore raw fingertips

Just whining here. I did some repairs, reinforcements, and modifications to the bag I made a few years ago… all I’m gonna say is that the upholstery needles and the needle on my speedy-stitch awl are dang sharp. They will easily cut you and if you dont pay attention you will have pink stitching...

Has anyone here successfully barked a squirrel?

So did anyone else come to the conclusion that “barking” might have really been a byproduct of “not hitting them in the head” and “oooh close enough works”??
